Paper Theatres from Carnival to Circus

Filed under Collage Sheets, Laura Carson, Nichola Battilana, Pierrot/Harlequin/Carnival

Yes, we’re a few days past Fat Tuesday but that isn’t stopping me from wanting to daydream about a Venetian Carnival. See Nichola Battilana’s Venetian Theatre below for a beautiful little shadowbox/shrine.

I started wandering through the past shadowboxes the design team has made with that same Small Paper Theatre Box that Nichola used… which inspired me to make a new collage sheet with TINY versions of paper theatre facades (including most of the images in Nichola and Laura’s projects below) but downsized for the Gift Card Box with Window Lid (approx. 3-1/2″ wide x 2-5/8″ tall).

See the quick mock-ups I did below. They are calling out for some characters on those stages (and some Dresden!) but you can see how tiny they are. There’s also a photo below them showing the relative sizes of the 2 boxes.

Some of the larger sources for the new Theatre Facades for Gift Card Boxes Collage Sheet are:
Tall Paper Theatre and Curtains
Paper Theatre Commedia Curtains
Toy Paper Theatres
Paper Theatre Cirque

I created a sale collection from the supplies from both of the art projects below — and put ALL of the Carnival & Circus Collage Sheets on sale (and since the new collage sheet is so circus-y, it’s in that sale)!

Isn’t Nichola’s Venetian Theatre lovely?

Her ode to Venice starts with a Small Paper Theatre Box then uses images from the Ships and Waves Backdrops and The Canals Collage Sheets (and I love all the depth with multiple layers of curtains and waves).

Of course you know I LOVE the Arlecchina jumping jack on either side of the theatre from the Pierrette Collage Sheet! I also love how Nichola rearranged bits of the Toy Paper Theatres Collage Sheet (plus some pleated paper and Dresden) to make her fancy header.

More info and photos are in Nichola’s blog post, and here’s a link to see all her supplies. Note: this project was made quite awhile ago, so use the links here to see the supplies.

Drag yourself away from her blog for a minute though, ’cause there’s more artwork and TWO SALES below!

Design Team Member Laura Carson used the Small Paper Theatre Boxes as the base for each of her three linked theatres.

I can’t decide which theatre I like the best. The middle one has naughty Punch just waiting for the clowns from the Clowns #1 Collage Sheet to come up the ladder so he can bonk them on the head (such a sweet scene!) with my favorite clown from Clowns #2 Collage Sheet looking on. (See the close-up at bottom right of the photo at left.)

The ladder on the front of the center box is made from 2 wooden skewers and toothpicks. Clever.

Here’s a link to see all of Laura’s supplies (all included in the sale, too).

Note that the facades (and the curtains or circus scene in the background) for both of those close-ups are included in the new mini Theatre Facades for Gift Card Boxes Collage Sheet.
