TWO Halloween Villages & Sale; Dresden; Christmas Toys, too!

Filed under Back in Stock, Christmas, Dresden, Halloween, Kristin Batsel, Miniatures, Shannon Cooper

Ah, it’s finally starting to turn a bit cooler here. And with fall comes a mix of new Halloween and Christmas goodies. Like those cute painted rocking horses at left! They look grand together or use just one near a miniature tree or in a vintage toy shop window.

And there are two Halloween Villages by the Design Team today using the Cabana Row House Mini Set! More info and a ton of eye candy below (and a related discount code for 20% off all the supplies for both projects).

But first: a mix of new and back in stock items, including some very popular Dresden trims! (Psst! That Black Zig Zag Trim is included in the sale, too!)

Spookytown, USA by Kristin Batsel

I love this new artwork by Kristin! It’s a wee little village (the tallest of these houses is just 3-3/4″ tall). Beside all the cute details Kristin added (and I did include some close-ups below), she cleverly made a base of foam and glued wire to the back of the fence and the tree so they can be rearranged!

Here’s a bit from Kristin’s blog post to get started:

I recently received a set of Cabana Row Mini Houses from Alpha Stamps, and I knew right away that a Halloween village was in order. Hello, Spookytown! Kids are frolicking, cats are guarding pumpkins, and someone has used a skull as a seasonal decoration.

I started out by covering each chipboard house with scrapbook paper; one type for the house itself, and a contrasting paper for the roof. Each got a Halloween motif on the front, and all but one got Halloween “windows” on the sides.

Spookytown needed a home base, so I made one out of foam core. It’s covered with black tissue paper; I just wrapped it like a present and glued it down. Orange ric rac helps finish off the edge.

There’s a preview of that clever tutorial:

The great thing about using foam core is that it’s easy to construct a scene. To attach the tree silhouette and the fence posts, I glued thin wire to the back of each element. Once the glue is dry, I used a straight pin to make a little hole in the foam core and then inserted each piece.

Love this project, Kristin!

A Clutter of Cats in Cottages by Shannon Cooper

Shannon made a similar Halloween village, but sat her houses on the 12×4 Platform Base (another option for a base, plus the sides and front make another tiny surface to decorate). See the wide photo below for the whole village.

So what did I make? It’s a Hallowe’en village for cats. Mostly black cats, but a grey one snuck in somewhere.

I’ve been wanting to make something with the Cabana Row House Mini Set for a really long time. Along comes the Masquerade Paper… well, that is all it took! It is my new best friend.

The tiny doors and windows from the Mini House Doors & Windows and House Ornament Window Trims fit exactly right on the mini houses. So cute.

Can we talk rickety fence for a sec? I snapped up the chipboard Tiny Rickety Fence Set and used them EVERYWHERE. Couldn’t get enough of those teensy, wonky things! I also chopped one up (gasp) and made a signpost.

A few Mini 3D Bare Trees were cut apart and painted black before adding them here and there, and I glued scraps of Dresden along the roofs. Some of the houses also have a pretty Dresden star at the peak.

I couldn’t resist the Hocus Pocus banner and found two wooden kitties to hold either end! And there you have it. One Hallowe’en plus cats decoration done!
