New Tunnel Book

This kit idea started with the new Banner Year 6×6 Paper Pad: A nice mix of styles (as this was meant to be used for making a calendar, it has patterns for all seasons).

Then moving on to a new mini 4×4 Arch Tunnel Book with 4 pages (a soiid back cover and 3 pages with arch window cut-outs). This size is perfect for a chunky book, too.

The kit also includes 2 new collage sheets:
Festivals & Hot Air Balloons and Garden Fountains.
The 4″ x 4″ images were chosen as backgrounds for the tunnel book (with care to ensure the image seen through the smallest archway will be interesting). Psst: A third collage sheet is new today that also has images sized for this tiny tunnel book (see below: it’a a circus theme!)

And some bonus resin sunflowers (in two sizes)! They coordinate with the 6×6 papers and one of the collage sheets, and they are edging toward fall colors.

Go see the new kit for more info and more photos (plus more coordinating goodies and artwork by TWO Design Team Members are below).

My Own Little Paradise by Rhonda Thomas!

Design Team Member Rhonda Thomas has made a mini tunnel book with accordion sides to keep the layers apart (to provide dimension when viewing). And read on: she includes a tutorial, too!

And by chance: that new wrought iron grate (shown at right — and announced on Thursday as it also fits the window in the new 4×4 Corner Room Box with Window) was used in both art projects today!

From Rhonda’s blog post:

When I see the image of this lovely lady, relaxing in her garden with her plants and chickens, she just seems to be in her own little paradise. I feel that way in my back garden, spending the morning admiring the tall trees on my back hill. It really is utter bliss.

The August Tunnel Book Kit gives you the chance to make a tunnel book of your own paradise, but I used the same pages to make an accordion tunnel. Below, I share pictures and describe exactly how I did it.

For the back of my accordion tunnel, I wanted to use a second “iron grate” to tie the front and back to one another. I thought of it like the back entrance to a beautiful old home. This view reminds me of many of the homes in Charleston, SC.

Be sure to visit Rhonda’s blog for more photos and a tutorial for constructing the accordion sides! Plus here’s her full supply list (and teaser: the 2 collage sheets highlighted below are also in today’s FLASH SALE)!

Halloween Tunnel Book by Kristin Batsel!

Design Team Member Kristin Batsel made a more traditionally-bound book with the larger 6×6 size tunnel book (also new today): and with a Halloween Theme!!

Weee! It’s August (not so good for heat, but getting closer to Halloween)! I love that the 2 art projects today use the tunnel books in very different ways (and different themes).

From Kristin’s blog post:

It’s never too early to craft for Halloween, and now that it’s August, be prepared to see a lot more spooky stuff! When I saw this 6″ x 6″ tunnel book, I just knew it was time to bring out the scary. Enter if you dare…

When it’s closed (left side of wide photo above), you can see through all the layers to the back of the book. I added lots of fun Halloween things, from a jack o’lantern, an articulated skeleton, a curious rat, and a skull and crossbones. There’s even a ferocious lion door knocker! Once I had it all assembled, it looked like it needed more color, so I added an orange bunting. It’s so easy to make: just glue little triangles to a piece of thread, and hang.

Let’s open it up! On page one, we visit the undertaker’s, which features a couple of tombstones and what appears to be a forgotten casket. Someone tried to decorate a bit by putting out some jack o’lanterns. The iron door is actually sold as a window, but with the addition of the street number and the knocker, it makes quite a presentable door.

Be sure to visit Kristin’s blog for more fun photos and don’t forget her supply list to find all those Halloween supplies!
