Letters from the Sea

Filed under Art Projects, Collage Sheets, Giveaways, Kristin Batsel, Letters from the Sea Kit, Sale, Tutorials

This new kit took its time to jell, but I love how it turned out! It has a mix of subtle sea colors with vintage letters and some beautiful Edwardian ladies… you could make a beach-themed collage, or antique ATCs, or tiny letters tied with a bow as a vaguely Valentine’s Day project. Lots of options!

The prints on the backs of the 3 papers from the Seaside & Me group are really what caught my eye! Pretty trims that don’t scream “SUMMER BEACH”… they would be nice borders edging a card, or even a whole wall of wallpaper in a miniature room.

Then when I found the Correspondence and Telegrams papers (both with a bit of the same sage green palette), the die was cast.

In addition to the FIVE scrapbook papers, there is a new Small Symmetrical Flourish Set (a chipboard set of flourishes that could be “just” pretty trims but also look like ocean waves).

And even more:
New Edwardian Women Collage Sheet (I love these ladies! I specifically chose full figures, so you can use them in a collage looking out over a balcony or a railing.)
New Mini Folding Envelopes Collage Sheet (With all those Edwardian ladies looking a little wistful — and some holding letters — I thought it would be fun to have miniature envelopes that you could fold into working miniatures. The largest envelopes are approx. 2″ x 3″ when folded. Plus there are some interesting envelopes (just the fronts or backs) you could add to a stack of letters and tie up with a ribbon.)
– 1 sheet from the new Parchment for Mini Letters (perhaps to make some tiny letters for those envelopes)
– 2 sheets from the new Waves & Seaweed Solid-Color Paper Set

Go see the new kit for more info and more photos.

Mermaids Mini Book Box with a Mini Tutorial by Kristin Batsel!

How fun! Design Team Member Kristin Batsel made a Mermaids Mini Book Box using two of the new papers to cover her tiny faux book (and a summery, mermaidy project would be a good escape right about now)!

From Kristin’s blog post:

I’m not sure why, but I really like to work small. So when I had my choice of projects this month from Alpha Stamps, I chose to work on a Matchbox Sized Faux Book Box (only 2-1/4″ tall)! It’s the perfect size for a tiny shrine. The papers in this month’s kit made me think “beach”, and “beach” made me think mermaids.

The outside of the box was wrapped in a lovely shell and seaweed paper, and then covered with a tiny beach poster advertising Mermaid Oysters. I used a couple of charms, a tiny pinch of sheet moss, and some flat back pearls to give the lid a bit of dimension.

For the inside of the box, I found a great image of mermaids that coordinates nicely with the new papers. I used three copies of that image to create dimension. Moss, tiny seashells, and a few more pearls were added to the bottom of the box.

Beside these highlights, here’s the full supply list! And be sure to visit Kristin’s blog for more photos and a tutorial! (And win supplies from Kristin’s project below!)
