Venetian Carnival & A New Swap

Filed under Art Deco, Collage Sheets, Costume History/Fashion, Newsletters, Swaps

Note: most of the links on this post no longer work, as we moved to a new Web site in 2018. But you can try searching on the same names (as links below) on the new site.

In honor of the Carnival season quickly approaching (Fat Tuesday is February 16), I’ve pulled together an entire page of goodies spanning the centuries from 17th c Venice to about 1920 Paris (or New Orleans… my vintage mags from that era are definitely in French).

Mini Carnival/Masquerade Mask Swap!

Here’s a bit of the info from the Swap Specs (that’s a link to the Yahoo Group, where you can also sign up for the swap):

Make 3 original Mini Masquerade Masks and receive 3 in return, all by different artists! We’re providing a template of mask options: there are 4 designs/mask shapes on the template. You can make all 3 of your masks a different shape or you can repeat the same shape for all 3. Sign up by February 7th; artwork will be due March 6th.

 Carnival/Masquerade Masks Gallery

A beautiful Gallery of samples to whet your appetite, by our Design Team and Guest Designer Izabella Pierce (who created the lovely mask with pink chandeliers in the large photo, above right). The smaller snippets of masks are by Design Team Members Barbe Saint John and Teri Calia (left and right, respectively). And a couple more close-ups of masks by the Design Team are farther down this page.

Venice/Carnival Theme Page

A huge page: 8 New Collage Sheets, Many New Scrapbook Papers, 5 New Rubber Stamps or Stamp Sets, Dresden, Ribbons/Trims, Charms/Connectors/Filigree, Bells and Rhinestones/Glitter. Whew. What else to say? Go there now!

More Valentines

Bronze Baroque Heart Charms
Antique bronze colored metal with etched details. 1-1/16″ wide. Indented on the back side (but these are heavier than a brass stamping, so the back side is a smooth heart shape).

Large Oval Cherub Pendant/Charm
This is a substantial piece… heavily cast brass, with baroque flourishes and an antique patina over gold plating.

6 New Collage Sheets
Mischievous Cupid, Winged Cupid & On Wings of Love
These first 3 all have a Cupid theme. That great image, above right, is from the Winged Cupid sheet.

Musical Offerings + Bouguereau Cupid & Nudes
A beautiful sheet from Polliwog & Dragonfly called Musical Offerings (2 small images shown at right) and 2 more sheets of paintings from William-Adolphe Bouguereau.

Miscellaneous

1/8″ Eyelets – Mixed Metallic Colors
Sold in a recloseable plastic “tin” of approximately 100. Used by Design Team Member Sarah Whitmire on her mini masquerade mask (snippet at right).

Legacy Letters Wood-Mounted Stamp SetOn Sale
All 26 letters plus an ampersan and exclamation point. A rough-hewn, Benjamin Franklin’s press feel. Letters are 9/16″ tall.

Flat Metal Bird Cage Pendant
“Flat” because we already have a 3D metal bird cage; this bird cage is cast and is not completely flat.) Oxidized black (or gun metal) color. Large size (approx. 2-1/8″ tall) with the silhouette shape of a Victorian birdcage; raised details, including the bird inside.

Vintage Patinaed Brass Textured Cable Chain
The same beautiful chain we already carry in gold-, copper-, or silver-plated brass

Shiny Gold Single Leaf Charms
Single leaves with indented veins. Gold-plated brass. Shown in the small photo at left as part of a beautiful mask by Design Team Member Frieda Oxenham.
