Mad Scientist Laboratory by Laura Carson & New Collage Sheets!
Filed under Art Projects, Collage Sheets, Grimsley Village, Halloween, Laura Carson, Steampunk
It all starts so subdued (in a Laura Carson over-the-top kinda way)… with a dark and stormy night, complete with lightning. With pumpkins at the doors and vines trailing up the walls of a Mad Scientist Laboratory!
It’s that time of the year when I get my Halloween groove on and bring you new spooky projects. The first one of the season is a new addition to last year’s Halloween Village, a Mad Scientist Laboratory.
It’s sort of a mix of Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory, meets old 50s and 60s Science Fiction movies with a touch of steampunk.
Yes, indeed! Laura has created 2 new collage sheets (one of those two is actually a set) AND 2 new large sets of digital images… Gizmos and dials, chemicals in bottles, signage, old books and papers, and parchments with odd scientific plans.
And if you look below at that wider photo, over on the right side of the room is the new Apothecary Cabinet for Larger Bottles! Filled to overflowing with books, bottles (including 3 colored bottles sitting in the new Flask Stand), Laura has put it to good use. I think it will be a great little cabinet for all kinds of scenes. The “larger” in the name means bottles up to 2″ tall (not that large, but pretty large compared to dollhouse scale). This new cabinet has nice big sections for bottles and whatnot, including sections for bottles in the 2 doors.
There’s Dr. Derange himself, over on the far left… in front of a table and blackboard filled with formulas and experiments.
Zooming in on that Apothecary Cabinet again (and in the close-up below) there are three Blue Glass Mason Jars on top, along with a skull in a tall glass dome and a raven in a round glass dome.
My favorite mechanical minion created by Dr. Derange is that one-eyed fellow at left, with a Bronze Steampunk Diving Helmet and one of the 12mm Glass Cat Eyes as his eye/head!

Hey, who won Freak Show Giveaway? That would be Carolyn Sullivan! Congratulations!
I ADORE this project and would make a slightly different version of my own.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO! This is fabulous!! LOVE the brain and the new Apothecary Cabinet and Flask Stands are amazing!
I would definitely create a little evil Fairy lab with these goodies and have a little gnome/elf “Frankenstein” creature being put together!! LOTS of experiments in progress and making new formulas to spread chaos and mayhem wherever the evil fairies go!!! Fingers tightly crossed as I am DYING to play with these goodies!!! macaskillbarbara (@) yahoo (.) com
I love the diver creature..and would definitely work on that kind of creature….love all of laura’s creations…she s the best.
Just delightful! My husband teaches chem labs! How cute it would be to make this for him!!! Love the little bottles and flask stand!
Laura’s creations are fabulous! I think the “one-eyed mechanical minion” is very inventive and I would love to try my hand at something halloween/steampunk this year.
Thanks for this opportunity!
I love this project! I am especially interested in her use of little lights.
LOVE the little bottles and the idea of a LAB Cabinet !!!!
xoxoxo
I am mad scientist Sassafrass…and I am working on a secret concoction as we speak….all I can tell you is its a magical green potion with “powers”, when I put the “mind machine” on the subject, well, let me tell you!….
Mind- blowing as always!!! I LOVE Laura’s Steampunk take on Halloween, especially the minions!!!
This is beyond creative and amazing! I love the use of the clear tubing for the different parts of the lab. Absolutely brilliant!
I am a Laura fan. I wait very impatiently for her Halloween projects!
I have never used lighting and would love to give it a try!
Oh wow!! This is fantastic! Love the mad scientist! I’d love to mix this up to a more steampunky type mad scientist’s lair. I love using old watch parts and and car bulbs, and I’d love to create something similar to the diving helmet monster 🙂
Brilliant Project! Laura is a genius and I love her work!
This is utterly amazing. I’m a big fan of sci-fi from 50’s and 60’s. The creatures are so fantastic-sci-fi and steampunk combined-my faves. I would make a scene from futuristic lab maybe on Mars.
This is awesome. I love every part if it. Especially the chalkboard and bottles and and and!
I love, love, love Halloween and the “Mad Scientist” theme.
I recently made an apothecary for a doctor friend of mine..
I hated to part with it, so I would make a new apothecary with this kit for my self. I, too, would probably add more steampunk type items to the scene.
love Laura’s work. Very inspiring! Halloween is my favourite time of year. I am making a doll house into a haunted mansion and no mansion should be without a secret mad lab. That is what I would use this for.
Luv Luv luv! Want a mad scientist laboratory! Especially incl the “robot spy” a la Johnny Quest!
I’d love to make trunks with the Halloween items and decorate tins and boxes for grandkids. I love Halloween!
I love this set I hope I win I would make a Halloween scene with everything Thank you
This project is awesome! I’ve always loved the mad scientist and was even referred to as one as a child. From what I’ve been told I look like one when I get an idea, and I do love to experiment!
I’d love to try using straws and ping pong balls in a Halloween diorama!
So I love All Hallows’ eve! Laura is the best and one of the best minds for imagination and in my option does her best work for Halloween! I have ALL HER TUTORIALS! I would love to win this give a way and for the outside of the apothecary, use her tissue technique and place the cat eye in the middle as the knob or latch. Awesome love this!
I’m simply “mad” for this Giveaway.
I love everything, but the use of ping pong balls was really clever!
I would love to try some steampunk. So many cool ideas, I want to try all of them!!
Love this ! What creativity !!! That steampunk robot is fabulous! I would use Laura’s ideas to create my own mad scientist laboratory !
I love Laura’s work, every time she hits on something I want to make. I’d make my own version of a laboratory.
I would duplicate Laura’s idea to the best of my ability! This is soooo wonderful
I love the steampunk octopus. I would love to try to make it
I would HAVE to make The Mad Scientist Laboratory. Would have to find a few miniature frogs/bugs to add.
Outside my apt. door is a ledge that I like to show-off mini scenes. I think the Mad Scientist laboratory would be fantastic. Passerbys would really enjoy seeing it!
Brilliant! I would make a “Mad Crafter’s Laboratory”! Since we crafters are made scientists when it comes to our art projects…..mixing mediums, mixing paints, mixing just about anything we think will get the result/idea that is in “our head”. I love all the ideas and the creative minds I see here! WOW!
Oh, I just love the spookies! A laboratory is just the right touch.
I would definitely go for making a mad scientist’s lab, maybe use the cabinet as a shadow box style lab set up.
The mechanical octopus creature. How fun is that! Love old bottles digital sheets too!
I can’t think of anything to make other than the mad lab. I think that Prof. Plop, who teaches Chem. 101 as his day job, would feel right at home here as his basement looks just like this. Prof. Plop by the way is Dr. Jeckel’s cousin, and is looking for the fountain of youth.
Love the mad scientist theme! I also see a witch’s pantry of all things for making spells!
This is a great Idea! I can see me doing up a book shelf size lab. maybe add a bit of steam punk as will!
Wow!! I want to do it all!! I like the idea of bendable straws for pipes! This would be a great addition to my carnival and village pieces!
I would love to try my hand at the mechanic minion.(the legs, oh my….) I love steampunk in anything…
I really, really, really love this! I would HAVE to do the lab or a witches kitchen. Everything is so perfectly fun!
I will go deep sea diving in Monterey Bay searching for baby sea otters. Thank you
Loooove the mad scientist’s room! And, the steampunk minions are just awesome. I like that she used ping pong balls and “regular” hardware nuts for parts.
I make little apothecaries all the time but never a laboratory! Definitely going to incorporate all products but make him m a mad Doctor about to perform surgery on a skeleton!
Love the expression on the scientist’s face…totally quizzical!
I would love to try the lights!
the little mechanical minion created by Dr. Derange is just too cute. great project.
I really don’t know what kind of non-/art supply I would use. But I do know I want to re-create that little mechanical minion with the one eyeball
To be honest, my brain is still too fried by the flood to even come up with something. I just wanted to drop in and say Laura is as amazing as ever. She is the most creative person I have ever seen.
Laura Carson rocks!! I am constantly amazed by her creativity. I loved the icee lid on the roof. Great repurpose. I would make a display of creepy goodness!
It’s my favorite time of year, I love when the Halloween projects start and this one is perfect. I am in love with the little one eyed minion, would love to make him and the entire lab.
I want to know what was used to make the cyclops spider guy. I want that. I would love to make a lab in the black and white movie vein. All in shades of grey.
Wow! You rock Laura! I need to watch the tutorial. My favorite use of a non- art item is the tubing in the lab bottles.
Laura always makes the most amazing things she has such a fantastic imagination. Would love to make all her fab creations. >^..^<
I looked through the list for a non-art supply item and didn’t see any. I can’t even think of what that would be so I’ll just say I might try a Merry Fairy Laboratory and have them whip up some funny frogs and beautiful bats
I love this so much! Perfect for Halloween, but I think I would make this as Steampunk as I could!
I am not sure what I would make with this great giveaway, but it would definitely involve the cat eyes – they are great!
Laura Carson you are brilliant! I love this so much! That apothecary !!!! I am in lust with all your wonderful chipboard boxes! I do t know what I would use if Laura’s ideas yet she always has such great ideas. I would definitely make a Halloween scene though maybe a witches potions room. Love the diving helmet! This would be a wonderful Santas workshop too full of miniature toys and elves. Scope for the imagination overload lol
This is so COOOOL; I would love to make a wizards laboratory.
Love the mad scientist. Perfect for Halloween. So many little creations you can make.
So much fun. Great addition to Halloween!
I Love the lights! WOW! Laura knocked it out of the park on this one! The diving helmet makes me think of evil mermen and mermaids and I could go that direction but ice got to spend more time looking at this magnificent art piece first!!!
This is amazing! I keep going back and looking at all of the marvelous details! The creatures are so much fun, and I love all the steampunk touches. I would make an shop for mad scientists and add it to my Halloween village. Fingers crossed!
This is so crazy and neat! Would love to make something like this.
I am always up to try Laura’s awesome Halloween creations. She has such an imagination, creating tirelessly and planning out great tutorials for us. Really appreciate all the hard work she does.
Wow! Laura has the most bizarre brain. This is so great. Absolutely love the steampunk spider.
Thank you for another memorable Halloween.
These idas & new items are beyond perfect to adapt for my castle dungeon laboratory!
A Monster Bar is what I would like to create with the small bottles and the collage sheet of bottles. I can just see bartender mixing Bloody Marys and Grim and Tonics for the haunted hipsters.
