A 2-story room box, or is it a dollhouse?

Remember the post about Laura Carson’s Steampunk Cat? Well, we have a treat today, as the 2-story house that that cat lives in is ready to be seen!
Wow! Isn’t it beautiful? I love how Laura has decorated the outside of the house (and we’ll see more posts — and video tutorials! — over the summer to find out how the rooms inside come together). Note: Laura has included the interior wall, floor and ceiling coverings in today’s post, too — preview pic is below.
Laura started with the new Stackable Room Box French Quarter (and roof… plus some extra windows that she added to the outside).
The new room box is a chipboard kit to put together a beautiful 1:12 scale, 2-story room box (more like a dollhouse). The kit includes a balcony, door and decorative door frame, window frames for all 3 windows (each with an extra border for dimension) with each with 2 windows (with panes) that can be hinged to open. It’s pretty big: the finished size is approx. 11-3/4″ wide x 19″ tall. (Psst… I had a half scale version made, too!)
Laura used embossed brick sheets over the raw chipboard walls, then added trims from her new Architectural Trims Digital Download Set to add more details (like the keystones above the windows; they really make the house feel vintage, IMHO).
Her digital set was also used for the faux round windows on the sides of the roof (over the Slate Roofing Paper).

In Steamtown, on Irongate Street, is a beautiful house that has sat empty for too long. Rumor has it that a famous explorer has recently leased the house and will be moving in shortly. Gossip flies around town as the residents try to guess who will be the new tenant.
It’s a diamond in the rough and how fun it will be to see just what the new tenant does with it, surely bringing their love of travel, exploration and adventure to the decor.
I’ve been chomping at the bit for a two story house kit and it was fun to help design it. For this project I’ve used it as a house, but it would make a great two story shop. The overall design lends itself to multiple facade styles. If two rooms are not enough you can use multiple kits joined together to have as many rooms as you like.
This project is just the start, in the coming weeks I’ll be decorating and furnishing the rooms and adding other elements to the exterior.

Ehat about a Peter Pan theme? I can see the second story sone up as a Victorian nursery and the bottom floor as a parlor, or perhaps a kitchen.
I would decorate it as a Victorian house. A friend who makes room boxes just shared several of hers at our doll club meeting and I was so inspired by her creative uses of jewelry bits, bottle caps and other finds! I also have some vintage Mattel Littles furniture that I think would work

I would make a haunted house for sure. The outside would be decorated like Disney’s Haunted Mansion.
As I love both mermaids and fairies, I would combine both I can envision the fairies playing with the sea horses (sitting on them) and playing with them.

I see it as my fanciful getaway place-downstairs would be beautifully cluttered with all my knickknacks and furniture; the attic would be stuffed with my sewing machines, mannequins, tiny dolls, fabric and a comfy chaise and a table for my tea and books. Of course there would be ribbons and shells piled for future projects, too!
Did I just die and go to Heaven? This is SO awesome. Since Halloween and Christmas are just around the corner I think I would have to make a Christmas with Krampus house! The resident children have been very naughty this year so Krampus will be visiting instead of Santa Claus.

I would make it to use for a Betsy, Tacy and Tib childhood home!
I love this! I would create a New Orleans music shop in the bottom that sells all types of instruments. The top level would be a studio apartment that is a writer of vampire books. The apartment would be decorated with dark red velvet chairs, candlelight, fringed lamps. Outside would be ivy covered brick with plenty of wrought iron.

I would make a boutique in the lower level and the shop keeper’s home in the upper level.
I think that I would make a bordello. For some reason the idea appeals.
I think a Harry Potter shop would be cool. I dislike dollhouse construction. This looks easy to assemble,so I can get right to the good stuff-decorating!

By the graveyard at the end of town is an old house of many faded colors. Rumor has it that an old gypsy family still lives there holding seances and reading tarot cards……….
Omg is there no end to the cuteness?! I would love to decorate this house using the colors and similar devote to my mom’s house. It would be adorable sitting on a coffee table. She loves dollhouses, but doesn’t have much room for a full house.
Of course I will make a Halloween Haunt, but for fairies. Pumpkin brew and flower stew. I’ll decorate with Day of the Dead marigolds. INSIDE and OUT. Thank you

Oh, I love these! I would make it into a little shop on the bottom and an apartment on top! Decorating the outside with a tiny, striped awning and brick siding with a tiny bench for the locals to sit and chat! Mini hugs ~ D. =)

This would be a great little wizard’s cottage! Shelves of potions, strange apparatus on tables, books everywhere. Its something I’ve been wanting to make for a while and this would be the perfect thing for it.
As for furniture ideas, more bookshelves would be great. Maybe even a corner cabinet.

Oh wow! A half scale house – just what I need (if you don’t ask my family!) I think I’d make a townhouse full of well loved and cared for antique furniture – just what my wildly successful cousin lives in.

I love this house that Laura created, but my first thought was I need to scale it down, so I am thrilled to see the house and roof available in 1:24. The outside I plan to make similar to Laura’s. I want to make the inside steampunk style. I will be following Steamtown for ideas.
Oh my…what an amazingly generous giveaway this week! I can see mine as a nice little country hideaway for a single lady, kind of English Country in style, with lots of roses, comfy, over-stuffed Chintz furniture, and a girly bedroom with lots of books in the attic! As for 1/2 scale furniture, why not go to your own store of dollhouse furniture and just downsize that for 1/2 scale? You have a lot of unique pieces that would be great. Thanks for the chance! I see a stately New Orleans townhouse inhabited by Louis and Lestat. The coffins would be upstairs and the main floor would have dusty, shabby furniture.

I gasped when I saw this! New Orleans French Quarter is my favorite place. I would revisit some of the ghost stories that take place in the Quarter and do something with those. As for half scale miniatures, candles, candelabras, tiny lights and more dishes.

Attention to detail is incredible! How would I decorate it ? With lots of velvet- curtains, sofas, furniture in the French style! Would have to do some research, digging to find quintessential pieces! Definitely sparks the imagination!
