New Tiny Steamer Trunk (& Art x3!) & FREE Tiny Boxes Gift Kit!
Filed under Betsy Skagen, Giveaways, Guest Designers, Miniatures, Newsletters, Teri Calia, Tiny Suitcase Kit
We have an embarrassment of riches today — THREE project all using miniature steamer trunks and all so different (and so well executed). Two of the project were created using the new 4 Inch Chipboard Steamer Trunk: A tiny kit (laser-cut chipboard) to put together a mini version of the Chipboard Steamer Trunk – Large Size. Love the tiny desktop that folds down!
Let’s start with a nostalgic trip to Paris, by Guest Designer Angie Cook! I love what Angie did with the trunk (and suitcase and chair). You’ll note that the new steamer trunk comes with a shelf on the left side (opposite side from the drop-down desktop), but Angie chose to omit that shelf to make space for a post to hang tiny clothes hangers. Good idea!
Angie’s trunk uses papers from the Tiny Suitcase Kit, plus lots of little accessories like postcards, a scrapbook, a passport, keys, and a hat box from the earlier Steamer Trunk Parts Collage Sheet.
Good job, Angie! Read more on Angie’s blog post, and see her full Supply List.
Next up (for a complete change of pace!) is Packing for a Trip to Transylvania by Teri Calia. Wow! Feeling like a Halloween project?! This should give you lots of inspiration.
Teri started by gluing TWO of the Corner Room Boxes together (to make an “L” shaped room — trust me… or check out her blog… so many cool things to show from her project that I can’t fit all the photos in!) Luckily the walls that form the corner can be configured on the left or right side of the platform. Plus Teri shows how she filled in some gaps then papered over the whole thing so you can’t tell it’s two room boxes underneath.
I love how she recolored all the furniture (those pieces started out stained in various wood tones). AND THAT MARTINI! Ack! On a table with a raven atop a skull — brilliant!
Next thing to note: there are now 3 sizes of tiny suitcases (so you can stack them up or just have more 1:12 scale sizes to play with.
And, the new Armchair with Red Velvet Upholstery — love it! Teri also recolored this one (as it was stained mahogany) but that red upholstery works perfectly with the red “velvet” drawers Teri made for her steamer trunk, using the new Red Suede Paper.
Here’s some info from Teri’s blog post:
When I build a miniature scene in a room box, I like to add the pieces I plan to use slowly and move them around until I find just the right balance… I usually glue everything down, but, this time I decided to use Museum Wax to fix the pieces in place so I could redecorate later if I want to.
By the way, I created a collage sheet with drawers for the new Steamer Trunk but I ended up using them inside out because they clashed with my black and white damask exterior paper, lol.
Even more info and photos are in Teri’s blog post. See everything Teri used in her Supply List.
FREE GIFT! In honor of Teri’s Packing for a Trip to Transylvania, using the new Tiny Little Damask Boxes Half Sheet, ALL ORDERS on Sunday and Monday, August 21st and 22nd (2016) will receive a Tiny Boxes & Suede Trim FREE Gift Kit including one of these new mini collage sheets, AND a little square of the new Black Suede Paper! A bit hard to see as the boxes are so dang tiny, but I’m holding a little strip of the suede paper as a hat box handle (over on the far right). More info
It’s true… we still have one more steamer trunk to admire! This clever and funny Houdini Steamer Trunk by Design Team Member Betsy Skagen uses the original Chipboard Steamer Trunk (which, by the way, is on sale). I love the barbie doll legs sticking out! And how clever is that: that rabbit in the top hat is covered in Dimensional Snow! See Betsy’s blog post for more info (including how to make the rabbit and the top hat). See everything Betsy used in her Supply List.

Hey, who won Time for a Safari Giveaway? That would be Diane Lewandowski! Congratulations!
What a great giveaway! I wish we could all win every week lol! I would decorate mine for a faerie queen or maybe a young lady going away to school. Anne of Green Gables I have loved for years a and I know she probably needs a steamer trunk. Love Angie’s Steamer trunk. Those tiny little hangers! And Teri’s Transylvania and yes! The martini haa! I have got to start playing with resin. That last one with the feet lolol!
This just screams STEAMPUNK to me! I’d have to punk it out, it is adorable.
My “dollhouse owner, Rowena” traveled quite extensively as a single wealthy woman. She has artifacts and eclectic items from her travels in her mansion’s library. These travel trunks would be wonderful to recreate an earlier time when lugging travel trunks was the norm.
You wouldn’t even guess the scenes are miniature unless you look closely – they look so real! Love the Houdini one. No one will notice the legs sticking out, lol! I think it would be fun to do one up for Halloween – maybe a place for a witch to store her toad’s eyelashes, eye of newt, etc.
Angie Cook’s Paris steamer is wonderful. I’m tempted to follow her lead. But after the Saffari post, my trunk may be packed for Africa! So much fun! Thanks for the lovely goodies and inspiration.
So many possibilities! Who could choose? My guess would be a cruise around the world!Ahhh the sights I could see if this were my trunk!
I would pack that trunk for a voyage on the Queen Mary
I’ll pack my bag and hit the open road straight to the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota. I’ll meet up with my nymph friends in the fields. Weeeeeeee! Thank you
All three trunks are amazing! I think I would pack my trunk as an artist packing for a move to Tahiti. Thanks!
I would decorate the steamer trunk for Halloween. Love it!
What a great collection. I would love to decorate as a Titanic steamer trunk.
I would do a sea theme with mermaids pearls seahorse tails for her to change etc
Totally awesome creations!! I especially love Terri’s double room box project!! WOW! Tons of awesome little details to see!
If I was to win this I would decorate it for Hansel and Gretel to take a trip to the island where the old lady who kidnapped them and tried to eat them had escaped!! They are going to settle things with her once and for all because they do not want her to be able to do this to other kids either!
I love Shabby Chic so mine would be mini pink roses and lace draped over the top and aged love letters. Pink perfume bottles would also go inside……
Love,Love this I would pack for a voyage on a ship ! How much fun is this to work on , it is endless !
This is a wonderful giveaway. I would make a scene of an immigrants new room after a long journey to a new land.
I am blown away by the Steamer Trunk & Suitcase!
I love this little trunk! ALONG TIME AGO my mom (a antique collector) gave me a steamer trunk which I got to decorate it any way I wanted. I painted the outside pink, and used wallpaper to cover all the drawers and insides. I then used a painted board to create a desk surface. I loved it! Hope to win.
Love the trunk – I would have to do a Dracula trunk & use one of the coffins !! 🕸
I am in the mood for something Halloween-y so that’s how I’d decorate it! Love the fall and Halloween!
Fabulous giveaway!! I’d probably do something quite similar to what you have shown. Love it all!! Maybe my dollhouse ladies could plan a nice trip!!
What a giveaway I love this trunk I would decorate it and put all my old Barbie stuff in it Yes I still have them!!!
Definitely been inspired to do something…..haunted
I love all of this, so very cute. I would like to come up with a new original idea but I have to admit that I love the trip to Transylvania trunk and room, I would love to make that!
my steamer trunk would belong to the magician’s assistant in a medicine show. I’ve got tiny bottles to fill with questionable things and I would throw in some props and maybe a costumey thing or two.
I love all the suggestions here so would borrow from one of these ideas to decorate my trunk!
Love, love, love this giveaway. Would definitely make a Halloween or Sherlock Holmes themed project. The possibilities are endless. Love all the goodies in this giveaway. Thank fir the chance to win it.
Halloween would be my first choice, followed closely by a trunk for my Raggedy Ann & Andy.
I would decorate it steampunk style and use Graphic 45 papers.
Probably would use it in my dollhouse but I love Betsy’s magical one
Wow – how cool! I just finished reading a book about the Lusitania. I can just imagine the steamer trunks like this that were on that ship! How fun it would be to make one!
OMG – this is so cool! I love the Transylvanian steamer – would love to make this for a Halloween theme!
I’d decorate the trunk with an “Around the World” steamship theme. I love the desk idea. It’s super cute!
OMG, I love the steam trunks! And the perfect suitcases…I would either go Parisian or steampunk if I were to win. So much creativity and inspiration!
All these steamer trunk ideas are so clever! Love them all. I think I might make a Santa’s elf’s steamer trunk full of tools and toys and an extra elf outfit!
OMG I can just see this for my Egyptian dig camp in the valley of the Kings. I see it overflowing with various pot shards, note books, tea mug, digging tools etc. on and about it. It is under a tent like shade tarp with a camp chair. It will be scuffed and worn from all the years in use. Oh, I am so excited with this idea. I want it, I want it. Thanks for the giveaway.
Such a sweet little project. But I think I will make this personal and decorator this miniature steamer truck to reflect my own personal travels.
Off on an ocean cruise………or a new bride packed for her honeymoon, so many possibilities
I’m debating between a Halloween theme and a fairy trip. Everyone here has such great ideas I might even try one of those. So many ideas – so little time.
I love the Halloween theme. A spooky trunk would be so much furn to make.
I would love to pack the steamer trunk for Venice.
this is fantastic!!!!! Gothic Victorian, of course!
I would make my steamer trunk for Marilyn Monroe.
I would love to make a traveling oddities or circus trunk. 🙂
I would make my trunk for E.A. Poe for a trip to London. Love this theme!
I’d decorate it for a trip around the world! How fun 🙂
I would love to do so many things with this kit. I believe I would make a fairy trunk for my little girl’s garden. They just got little clothes and clothes line so a trunk would be so cool for them. I have an autistic 8yr old and I foster my grand nieces who are 7 and 4. They love fairies and mermaids. Maybe an underwater treasure mermaid chest would be awsome as well.
I would decorate my steamer trunk to reflect a trip back in time to Victorian England, complete with crinolines, etc…
Love the steamer trunk-I have the large one and had so much fun altering it. Would be great to win the smaller one to make as the a twin to the bigger one. Love all the new stuff. >^..^<
What an awesome piece. I would decorate as a Victorian Bridal trouseau… Such fun!!
So cute. I am going to have it look old and well used to put up in the attic my dollhouse.

I LOVE steamer trunks! I have two antique ones that are slightly damaged and I’m restoring them. If I won this giveaway, I would decorate as if going on a cruise ship – maybe the Titanic! I hope I win this one. It’s a wonderful package.
I have been planning on doing a steamer trunk for a long time and I hadn’t thought about it until now but a witch truck would be just perfect. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas!
Lately I’ve become mad about a TV show from Australia called “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries” which takes place in the golden era of steamer travel, the late 1920s. In the first episode she comes off a ship with all sorts of luggage including a steamer trunk! I’ve already bought your suitcases with no idea why, and this piece makes it clear, I NEED to do a “Miss Fisher” scene!
Oh yeah so want to make one of these exactly the same way but would adds vampire slaying kit and a few vials of blood!
I would love to make a steamer trunk!
I’d want to make a Halloween in Paris steamer trunk. I love the idea of mixing the two.
I would decorate my miniature steamer trunk for pirate adventures on the high seas!
I would decorate it like it belonged to a world traveler from 1920, with places i’ve been or would like to go!
