Krampus and Fairy Wings?!

Note: most of the links on this post no longer work, as we moved to a new Web site in 2018. But you can try searching on the same names (as links below) on the new site.

Yes, yes, less than a week till Christmas! And also just a coupla days before the longest night of the year (21st this year… well, depends where you are). So I greatly appreciate Lora’s artwork today! Yes, I love Christmas but having a contrasting project just feels like a relief right about now.

A couple quick announcements:

First: a reminder that the 33% Off Sale on Christmas Collage Sheets has been extended through Christmas Eve! (That includes that Krampus Sheet shown at left.) There’s still time to download some digital images or collage sheets for making last-minute gifts. AND I recently added the Angels and Saints Collage Sheets to the sale, too!

Next: yes, it’s that time again: While the Cat’s Away… More info

Design Team Member Lora Mahaffey has put together the most marvelous Krampus Sleigh. Aaah Krampus. That delightful sidekick to old St. Nicholas who doles out punishments instead of toys to naughty little girls and boys!

This is kind of what I picture him riding around in. Kind of the anti-Santa’s sleigh…all dark and sooty with horns that he shed from the previous year mounted on the back of his great big chair, his sack-o-children and birch branches tossed in the back.

The project was pretty straightforward. First I assembled the Chipboard Sleigh – Tabletop all but the outer sleigh railings which I set aside. I painted everything black, including the outer railings, let it dry completely, and then cut and fitted my red paper. You can use any paper you like…I just liked the sooty quality of the red paper. It sort of looks like a cast-off Santa sleigh to me. I glued the paper on and let it dry. Alpha Stamps doesn’t carry the paper that I used, but the Red Music Paper is a good alternative.

I painted the brass filigree on the front of the sleigh and then pieces of the Arch Top Reliquary black. Glued my paper on the back piece of the reliquary and then glued the reliquary frame over it.

Grab your bag of birch branches and beat your way over to Lora’s blog; there are more pictures and Lora tells you how she made everything else on the sleigh. (Including those horns!)

Well, with the darkness of Krampus there has to be something light and cheery, don’t you think? How about some gorgeous fairy wings to play with? The Queen of Fey (and Design Team Member) Nichola Battilana has put together a new Fairy Wings Collage Sheet full of beautiful gossamer wings. As you can see in the photo of the amazing Frosty Winter Fairy Dress Nichola made, the wings look fabulous printed on clear transparancy.

And a few things in a lighter vein:
Fairy Wings Collage Sheet (New!)
Cotton Lace Sampler Set
Miniature Acrylic Crystal Garland

And she replied to my query “We’re getting close to Christmas… still making presents? (Brave enough to admit) haven’t started yet? Any last minute suggestions for gifts or decorations that could be made with downloaded Christmas Collage Sheets?”

Working on the last of my crafts. Everyone loves handmade personal ornaments. Use the round ornaments and mod podge images or scenes to the ball finish off with lace and hang a personalized tag. Sure to brighten someone’s smile.

I’d make a marvelously scary Krampus to remind us all to be nice and not naughty!

  2. Ina Good says:

I would make the granpus sleigh with a fairy pulling him around

  3. jean marmo says:

LOVE the angel wings! I might make the sleigh running over Krampus. He is kind of scary:)

  4. Evelyn Valencia says:

Lol! Krampus is for those who were naughty this year. Might include a few pics of myself in that sleigh. Lol! Merry Christmas!

  5. Alice Z says:

I had never heard of Krampus before and once again have learned something that started with Alpha Stamps and the blog! I Googled him, what a fascinating history! I wonder if he could be “born” on Halloween and grow up in just the few weeks between then and Christmas. I’m glad I didn’t know about him when I was a kid! VERY scary! The polymer clay horns are a fantastic touch!

  6. Barb J says:

I might try to make the sleigh with wings and Krampus with wings as well. Just a silly touch.

  7. Jen R says:

Wow a Krampus ride, I love it. Naughty fairies come to mind. Flying around and sitting in the sleigh, kinda like Santa having his elves, Krampus can have some naughty fairies to help him give out all the punishments.

  8. Deanne says:

I’d love to make something a little wicked to remind us that not everything is good. A sleigh full of little naughty fairies reminding us what happens when we do not behave as we should!

  9. Phoebe Diamond says:

I think I would have my Krampus figurine riding in the sleigh. I might even get motivated to create some figures of those who he will come to visit.

  10. Kimberly Barcello says:

I had never heard of Krampus until this year (I mustve been a very good girl!) Being such a fan of Santa I’ve amassed a huge unique collection of the jolly, old fella over the years, but think maybe now I need to start collecting Santa’s nemesis too “oh what fun!”

How ’bout a “sleigh of good and evil” one side decorated dark and the other light, showing the fine line between nice and naughty….possibly a two sided figure…. Santa- angel, Krampus- devil. It would be a challenge, but i’m liking the idea!

  11. I love these I would love to make a 3D collage with these products thank you liked and shared

  12. Roxanne says:

Welllll….Is it wrong I would like to downplay the ‘dark’ and up-play the ‘light’ and make the ‘dark’ pastel & friendly and have a dress and sweet wings and maybe a smile and turn scary into good…. 🙂 After all the Spirit of the Season is to be kind and good and “that I will honor Christmas in my heart and carry it with me the whole year through!” 🙂
Merry Christmas to you all Alpha Stamps….

  13. Russell says:

    Santa’s Village.. no, no, no..
    Krampus’ Village.. hehehe. YES!
Trading my gumdrops in for toadstools! Priceless.

  14. marykay chisum says:

Ah the spirit of a. Christmas nightmare! Love it

  15. Bret says:

Krampus is one of my favorite myths. To decorate him with wings and in a sleigh, oh my, I would wonder just how naughty a child would have to be!! Happy Holidays

  16. Debbi says:

Ahhh! A wonderful collection! I would love this. Last year I had to do a darker version of that shelf elf, so I could really see a version of this as his “ride”! With a skelly reindeer too.

  17. Beth says:

Ahhhhh! I’d make a Krampus sleigh with 8 naughty faeries to lead him through the night to deliver all the naughtiness. ..lol

  18. Donna says:

I make Pocket Letters & ATC cards- and all of these items would be so lovely not only to decorate the pockets and cards but also to share with others when I mail the Pocket Letters!!

  19. Leah Fein says:

What would I make? I think I would want to make a diorama of the Seele and Unseelie courts meeting for a party. Maybe a solstice party among the two courts.

  20. Dennis L. says:

Loving that sleigh! I think I would choose scary goblins to pull the sleigh. Or create a winged wildebeest with fiery red eyes and a forked tongue. Merry Christmas to all!!

  21. Carolyn Bowlby says:

I promise to be nice if I win this neat Giveaway.

  22. Emily Ann Dale says:

I would make the Krampus sleigh with Krampus driving. It would be pulled by skeleton horses with fairy wings.

  23. Denise Bryant says:

oh, this is very fun! I think I need to make this as a special gift to my sister! Better not to divulge the reasons, just to say she is very deserving this year!

  24. Jennie says:

Oooh, I’d totally make a Fae who had dropped her glamour! A little dark and creepy, and beautiful all at once.

  25. MaggieM says:

I would love to make a fairy Godmother or Angel riding in the sleigh, all decked out in lace and using the fairy wings collage sheet, and send it to my niece who just underwent brain surgery to have a tumor removed. She has pulled through with flying colors and will endure quite a recovery period. I would love to surprise her with my Fairy Godmother sleigh:)

  26. Ginette says:

I’d replace the face of angels pictures with little devils.

  27. Karen Mallory says:

If I made anything Krampus it would go out at Halloween! I am all about cheery at Christmas!

  28. Holly says:

I’d put fairy wings on Krampus! Take a little of the “scary” away from him!

  29. Margaret D says:

I would be making some lovely Krampus cards for a certain group of my friends who forget that Halloween is one night only! One of them thought that the movie ‘Krampus’ was another Hollywood imagination thing. When I told him Krampus was actually a very old boogie story for kiddos he was flabbergasted haha. So he would definitely get a card! I love that sleigh soooo very much and the fairy wings I think I would love to make a Snow Queen for that sleigh so it would be kind of dark and kind of light.

  30. Lori Gesing says:

Oh what a wonderful giveaway! I would be using mine to blend with some other goodies I have for a wonderful mixed media piece.
    Wishing me luck!

  31. Rosemarie Grant says:

I am not fond of Krampus. I much prefer Black Peter the chimney sweep who gives out coal. I could make a little prune doll, like they do in Germany, of Peter with his chimney brush and his bag of coal. I would decorate the sleigh in the European manner, have it pulled by Great Danes or Huskies by gluing the heads onto the deer bodies with the wings to help them fly, turn the frame into a picture of St. Nick with his goodie bag and Have a roll of only good children names running from St. Nicks hand to Peter’s hand, showing that even Peter believes all children are good. I might also put a little tree over the first dog/reindeer with the lantern guiding the way. Would probablely have to arrange somethings differently to make them fit. My idea would be to have the sleigh on a candle stand and the reindeer wired somehow so they fly.

  32. barb m,acaskill says:

I would make a Krampus Sleigh crash scene! Picture it: Snow all over the bones of the bad little boys and girls held together by the chains Krampus put them in, evil fairies flitting to and fro looking to see if they can offer assistance to anyone by finishing them off, Krampus’ horns will be laying in a pile of snow with just one cloven hoof reaching out from underneath the snow. Nobody will know till next Christmas if Krampus made it through the night or if he perished in the crash!

  33. Carol Slowik says:

Not a big fan of Krampus. I would probably save those images for some weird Halloween stuff. I do LOVE the sleigh and would definitely decorate it up very christmasy!

  34. Shelly Norris says:

I had not heard of Krampas until they started advertising the new movie that is coming out this month. I love spooky and scary. The sleigh created would be I think a lovely edition to the darker side of halloween.

  35. Debra Gibson says:

WOW! if I won this great prize I would make Christmas fairy’s! What a wonderful giveaway! Merry Christmas to all!!!

  36. Luanne Shoup says:

Krampus looks like Satin to me. Too creepy for Christmas……not humored by it at all. Christmas is all about the birth of Christ.

  37. Jenni says:

I really love the old time myth of Krampus and Saint Nick! It conjures up such wonderfully wicked imagery! I would make a krampus and a Saint Nick doll to sit in the tricked out sleigh. Coal black reindeer with glowing red eyes would pull it along while old Saint Nick rewards the good children with gifts and Krampus punishes the naughty children and stuffs them into his basket!!

  38. Linda Marie says:

Bad Santa delivering coal to all the bad children. Lol

  39. Kat Cashwell says:

Love the Krampus sleigh! I think I would have to make a Devils Den with the wonderful collage sheets. I think Krampus needs an evil fairy playmate! My haunted village needs to be decorated for Christmas and what a perfect edition this would make! I would make gargoyle and goblin elves/fairies that would pull Krampus’ sleigh and a perfect party place would be the cemetery! Krampus would need the glowing red eyes to complete his outfit! what a party they would have and naughty is the new nice!

  40. Nancy S says:

I’m not sure that I could decorate with Krampus. Do appreciate how clever but I like the innocence that comes with Saint Nick. I’m absolutely in love with the Fairy dress!!

  41. Betty Geist says:

    I would love to try

  42. Carmen g says:

Oh, that’s easy….if there was ever a time for Krampus to get his drag on and channel Mariah Carey, well…this would be it. You’re welcome. Heh heh

  43. Jo says:

I’d do something naughty and nice!

  44. sheilaAR says:

It’s the traditional struggle of darkness and light battling for dominance within each one of us. Even Krampus feels the pull. Once he was an angel of light, like Lucifer, but fell into his darker tendencies and now holds his distasteful task on Christmas Eve. The reliquary arch I would make a giant mirror reflecting Krampus the Light wondering back at him, as he scowls into his visage.
