Christmas Trees with Cutaway Winter Scenes by Laura Carson!
Hey, do you remember the Christmas Tree with Cutaway Winter Scene that Laura made (many moons ago)? You can check out the past post here, and/or see the little house that resides inside that tree (with and without the LED light turned on) at right. (Psst… I added a preview pic for the back-in-stock Tiny Shingles or Fish Scales Stencil below, for that glittery roof on the house.)
Well, before you get too lost in her tutorial from that tree and wintry scene, Laura has made TWO MORE trees with house scenes inside (for a possible fireplace mantel display — or table centerpiece — for your full-size house)! Scroll down just a tad to see a wide photo showing all 3 of the trees.
Here’s some text from Laura’s new blog post to get us started:
If you are looking for a Christmas project that is on a larger scale, this might be it. In 2016, I made my first Christmas tree with a cutaway revealing a lighted winter scene. I decided to revisit the project, create two more trees, and make a video tutorial.
I thought a series of these trees would look lovely arranged on a fireplace mantel paired with my Jeweled Trees from a previous project. Each tree features a different color scheme, decorative embellishments, and the house inside. As an extra touch, they are lighted (battery operated), giving off a soft glow.
Laura covers making the large cone trees (using a brown paper structure then covered with scrapbook papers) in her post. I’m going to jump ahead to her clever redesign of the Quarter Scale Dollhouse.
That house is shown at left (all fancied up, including a door with a wreath and icicles) and in it’s bare form at right (and it’s in the Green & Gold Tree at far right in that overview photo above — and 2 views are in a wide photo below).
Laura wanted a house with more windows (and dormers on the roof) — and to have the house lit from inside — so she constructed the dollhouse without the horizontal floor pieces (so the light from one LED could shine out from all the windows). This is all covered in her tutorial.
Note that she also slid that front facade (see the “bare” photo at right) down to ground level (as the front doesn’t need to open up like a dollhouse with furniture inside). Then she filled in the top with a row of 3 more tiny windows (and used the same arched-top window frames overtop of the dormer windows, too).
By the way, the pretty sage-green papers (one with a gold pattern on the back) that Laura used on that Green & Gold Tree are from the new Christmas Charm Collection. Plus the brick and stone papers on the dollhouse are from the new Italian Streets 6×6 Creative Pad.
Thank you, Laura! This is such a clever and beautiful project!
Go visit Laura’s blog post for more photos and her video tutorial! Here’s her supply lists: Original Tree, Green & Gold Tree, Blue & Silver Tree. And read on, as there are tons of Christmas treats still below!
