New Etched Coffin Book Covers, Halloween Books & Tags SALE!

Filed under Halloween, Nichola Battilana, Rhonda Secrist Thomas

Coffins?! Etched coffin book covers?! So many cool (tiny) items today to make a miniature accordion book!

So here goes: This tiny accordion book idea kind of evolved. First it started with the Plague Doctor 3 Inch Coffin shown at left (swoon)! Then I had a Tiny Black Coffin Accordion Book and Tiny Coffin Book Covers made to fit that tiny coffin (in case you want to turn the etched coffin into a book cover for a coffin-shaped book). AND the Ouija Board 3 Inch Coffins (only one of the set is shown below) also fits the same little accordion book!

Plus see below cuz I picked out two past projects by the Design Team, with a Tiny Coffin or Black Accordion Book theme to each.

AND I’ve put ALL of the supplies for both projects in a new collection and created a discount code for 20% off those suppiles! PLUS I added the new coffins to the sale (and a couple more coffiny things, too)! More info on the sale is below (and remember that all of the supplies shown ‘tween here and there are included in the sale)!

Accordion Book with Bottle Tree by Rhonda Thomas!

Starting out our art inspiration with this accordion book (with a cool bottle tree) shown at left and below. I love that tree! Rhonda covered it in miniature bottles. And she shares some of the history of bottle trees on her blog post:

I knew I needed something creative for my Creepy Tree, and then it hit me. Bottles, lots of hanging bottles. I remembered seeing a tree in South Carolina years ago, covered in hanging bottles. So of course I had to find out the story behind the decorated tree.

The legend goes that evil spirits are drawn to the bottles when the light of the moon reflects off the glass. The spirits enter into the bottles and become trapped inside where they are forced to stay for the rest of the night. To signal their displeasure at being confined they can often be heard moaning when the wind blows through the bottle tree. When the sun rises the next morning, the sunlight burns and destroys the evil spirits trapped inside the bottles. The empty bottles are then free to lie in wait for the next wandering soul that may happen by when nightfall arrives.

I also love the gate on the front of the accordion book (above — with 2 images from the Retro Halloween Cards & Tags Collage Sheet) AND the Mini Gothic Fences below (lots of fences in this piece)!

What a fun project! Here’s the (largish) supply list for Rhonda’s Accordion Book with Bottle Tree.

Coffin Shrines and Tags by Nichola Battilana!

Aw! Nichola made super cute (and easy) coffin art by using both the coffins and the coffin lids from 2 tiny 3D coffin sets!

I was pleased to find a Half Scale Coffin with Lid in my Alpha Stamps design kit this month. I actually had a few 4 Inch Coffin Boxes on hand already, but this smaller version poked me in the ribs and prompted me to finish up all those bits and pieces.

I am totally for making materials stretch and using every bit and bob. So I decided to use the box part of these coffins as a sort of shrine, and the lids as chunky tags. Two projects, one product. This also means no fiddling or fuss to ensure the top fits perfectly with the bottom. Huzzah!

For the shines… just embellish the exterior, fill with tulle, add a little dude like this guy from Little Darlings Collage Sheet and gussy him up with some doodads from the Halloween Dress Up Half Sheet.

A small bit of moss tucked into the bottom will give an extra something to help your wee person stand sturdy.

Nicely done! Here’s the supply list for Nichola’s wee shrines & tags.

And here’s Nichola’s blog post for more info and more photos. (Note: this project was made before we moved to the current site in 2018, so use this supply list link.)
