New Junque Gypsy, Trinket Boxes (& FLASH Sale on Paper!)
Filed under Art Projects, Back in Stock, Giveaways, Newsletters, Sale, Shannon Cooper, Vintage Vagabond Kit
Note: most of the links on this post no longer work, as we moved to a new Web site in 2018. However, you can see the supply list items from Nichola’s project that are still available on the new site.
A quick intro before Design Team Coordinator Miz Bella (Kim Ayers) introduces TWO sweet (ok… one is not so sweet) projects by Design Team Members Shannon Cooper and Nichola Battilana!
NEW FLASH SALE: Spring Cleaning! I just put the ENTIRE Scrapbook Papers Section On Sale for 40% off! Except for the New Junque Gypsy Papers (yay! finally here!), everything in that big section is priced to clear some space! (Big section indeed: over 250 designs to choose from!) The sale ends Monday night, April 20th.
And don’t fret, even the New Junque Gypsy Papers are On Sale (at the 15% discount price that all scrapbook papers and paper pads are normally priced at). Pics of some papers from this line are below (with a lovely little Trinket Box by Miz Nichola)!
AND a reminder: the Half Price Sale on Spring Flowers Collage Sheets (and FREE collage sheet offer) announced in Sunday’s Newsletter ends tomorrow night (Friday, April 17th).
Continuing with the Vintage Vagabond theme, Design Team Member Shannon Cooper was influenced by her recent reading of Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness.”
As Shannon so aptly summizes, it’s a dark struggle between “good and evil, right and wrong, sane and coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs.” Shannon’s interpretation of the story includes the Steamer Trunk belonging to the loony bin character Kurtz, and the photograph representing the other character, Marlow, and his personal discovery of humanity’s darkness during his voyage down the Congo.
“I started with a 6.75 x 8.75 Configurations Box and sheets from the Serengeti 8 x 8 Paper Pad, which were torn and aged with ink, then adhered to the inside of the box. “
“After assembling the Steamer Trunk, I covered it in paper from the Serengeti 6×6 Paper Pad, and then used this really spectacular Faux Suede Paper to simulate edge slats. The same paper was used to make itty, bitty straps and I bent a wire in the shape of a buckle. (A bit larger scale, but you can save yourself a lot of trouble and just buy these Tiny Gold Buckles instead.) The trunk is battered and beaten, and holds all manners of things such as ivory tusks, a journal, letters, and… a shrunken head? You never really know what you might find!”
I love those tiny bundles of letters! (Note the photo of Shannon holding a bundle in the lower right of the large photo at right). The letters are from the Tiny Vintage Letters & Postage Collage Sheet, which is also included in the April Kit.
Ooohh, a shrunken head, too! My favorite. Don’t lose yours when you see the Heart of Darkness Trunk Supply List. Afterward, “head” on over to Shannon’s blog for more eye candy and to find out how she made that sweet little melon and discover more treasures in the trunk!
And, check below ’cause Leslie pulled a Giveaway package inspired by Shannon’s artwork! (And she included some new or back in stock goodies, too!)
Next up is a gorgeous little Trinket Box by Design Team Member Nichola Battilana! (See multiple views below.) Using the New Trinket Box Kit and papers from the New Junque Gypsy 6×6 Paper Pad (and flowers like Botanica Sugared Mini Blooms – Mocha and Velvet Hydrangeas – Cream… and don’t forget that perfectly-sized 3mm Thin Gold Stripes Paper Tape around the edge of the lid!) Nichola has made a lovely box that would be perfect for Mother’s Day (as the gift itself or a really spiffy gift box). Or a box to hide supplies on your own desk?
And all of those supplies just mentioned in that last paragraph: they are ALL On Sale! Yep, including the new items, too!
Here is Nichola’s Supply List and see her blog for more info and more photographs!

Hooray for the Bookcase of Darkness Giveaway!
Yes, this went from Heart of Darkness to House of Darkness (but it’s not got a lot of houses save that little pendant) so I landed on Bookcase of Darkness. I’m sure there’s a comedy routine in there somewhere.
Note: This Giveaway includes a Vintage Vagabond (not shown in the photo at right). That will give you all the collage sheets that Shannon used for her faux hardware and tiny envelopes.
I’ve included these goodies from Shannon’s Heart of Darkness Trunk (note: that’s a link to photos of ALL the supplies):
– Chipboard Steamer Trunk
– Resin Skull Beads
– Small Resin Skull Beads
– Set of Miniature Books
– Miniature Carving Knives
– April 2015 Kit – Vintage Vagabond
Then a few things that caught my eye:
– Hinged House Pendants – Antique Copper (Back in Stock)
– ATC Window Shrine Kit (New)
– Bronze Hand Charms (New)
– 12mm Wooden Drawer Pull or Box Feet (note: these are a good size for adding feet to the shrine)
To enter the Bookcase of Darkness Giveaway drawing all you have to do is leave a comment BELOW on this blog post TODAY OR TOMORROW (the deadline is 11:59 pm PST, FRIDAY, April 17, 2015)! AND tell me what you’d make with with this mix of books, knives, skulls and Victorian hand charms. (You all had such great ideas for what to make from the Spring Getaway Giveaway!)
Don’t forget to leave your (hello! correct) email address, too, so I can contact the winner; your email address does not need to be made public. Note: I’m offering free shipping, too, but only within the USA. International shipping will still apply.
Please be patient! Spammers try to post crap here a lot so comments are moderated. So if you don’t see your post in the comments section, be patient and check back in a few hours before re-posting it, please!
After midnight, I’ll randomly pick the winner (via Random.org). So check your mailbox on Sunday morning to see who won and for the next Giveaway and Newsletter!
Hey, who won the Spring Getaway Giveaway? That would be Cocoa! Please check your email for my message about getting your mailing address.
Beautiful kit. Laid on it’s side, it would make an awesome little jewelry box.
OMG-I have the perfect project for these! I purchased a wooden coffin in October, and a friend made tiny shelves from balsa wood ,with the intention of making a Halloween themed bookcase!I haven’t gotten far(just covered with paper) but these items would all be perfect! Thanks for the chance to enter !
The creepier; the better!!!
Absolutely in love with that darling trinket box!! Endless possibilities….
I would make an anatomy bookcase to go in something like dr frankenstein’s lab!
I would still like to do something “under the sea.” This may be fun with all the sculls piled high! Thank you for the chance to win this giveaway.
I would use the kit to make a cabinet of curiosities.
great
Cabinet of curiosities, definitely. No-brainer here.
So many possibilities its hard to choose what I might make.
A Poe style library, just need to find a small raven. Never more.
I love this bookcase! I would probably make it more library-ish than ghoulish! 🙂 Skulls just don’t go with my decor!
LOVE IT!! I’m thinking an apothecary bookcase! Oh goodness really, really want this one!!!
I love the bookcase piece… all kinds of ideas for that!!
Wow…I love this vintage look. And that Bookcase of Darkness has my name on it!! Great giveaway!
The theme “heart of darkness” makes me think to use the window shrine in a larger portrait, where that cabinet might reveal all kinds of things in the heart. The larger skull beads could be particularly appropriate in such a setting.
My favorite scary movie is Skeleton Key, so I would make a voodoo cabinet with this – I’ve got some tiny bottles I could use and would make some other props – little candles out of melted crayons and a little voodoo doll.
Such a wonderful trunk full of secrets and mystery! Awesome! Have a great week!~kim
WOW, super giveaway! My idea is not creepy…I would love to create a bookcase with one of the small tea sets you have, and make a mini tea party for my granddaughter. I would include the books and the non-creepy items and make it into a sort of small doll house. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I am so excited about finding Alpha Stamps. The book box would be perfect setting for miniature library, with a Victorian flair. Lots of books, flowers, etc. Love the little Trinket Box too.
Thank you!
I would make a cabinet that might be found the Dark Arts classroom at Hogworts.
Even though Halloween is still off in the distance, I would create a sinister witches bookshelf, covering the books with appropriate book titles & etc. Very antiqued and Gothic in style.
I would love to make it into a fortune teller’s cabinet with a crystal ball and a ouija board and all the little books labeled for fortune telling and prophecy. Skulls and the hand will fit in nicely, and the frame would become the fortune teller’s sign for her shop.
Love this giveaway! An apothecary bookcase maybe throw a little Poe in there ! Divine !!! Thanks for the chance to win !!
I would go from creepy to elegant — Downton Abbey style —
with Victorian accessories and miniature photos of the
fashionable women of that time — clocks, jewels, letter
bundles (love what was done with those), and English roses.
Yummmmm!
I like the creepy style! Great giveaway!
I LOVE all of this I hope I win this is great giveaway!
I would make some kind of Halloween decoration — that’s perfect for it! 🙂
Happy crafting,
Birgit
So exciting again, just love it!
I love this steamer trunk. The shrunken head is amazing!
Such a wonderful box! Would be such fun to play with!
I can fathom many different looks for this darling bookshelf.
I would put that steamer trunk filled with all sorts of goodies into the vignette of a well traveled Oxford professor I am currently making. Those little books would look great in the bookcase along with the dozens and dozens of other ones I have been making!
I love todays projects and the giveaway. I have made numerous projects using the shrines and I love the Poe theme. I would definitely make some thing macabre. Love the spooky!
Looks like fun to me!
This would be a great addition to my Hogwarts doll display.
An apothecary chest of sorts, creepy and ghoulish. Thanks for the chance to win!
Love it.
A tiny bookcase to display the memorabilia of when my Great Grandparents went to the 1915 World Exhibition in San Francisco.
This will get me ready for Halloween!
Oh the mind explodes with ideas.
It’s got to be my turn sooner or later, right? Great giveaway!!!
love all the miniatures! how cool! Sure would love to win someday…. 🙂
Reading and darkness in the same phrase ?
Looks like a lovely library, just waiting to be built
Another great giveaway
Good luck everyone.
I would build a sinister library with the books, maybe put a Poe book cover on one that is on its back with the skull on top, candles with dripping blood…
I am cuckoo for all the luscious goodies in today’s prize package!!! LOVE the trinket box and the steamer trunk is AMAZING!!! I would create a macabre Fairy and Elfin scene with the ATC Shrine and they will need a steamer trunk to bring all of their belongings with them when they are on their trip to A Land Far Away to get the skeletons out of their closets! Would love to have them winging their way to me! Thanks for the chance!
The trinket boxes are so awesome. Love the gypsy scrapbook paper and miniatures as well. Great giveaway!
Wow, what a fabulous project … LOVE the giveaway. I would make some fabulous Hallowe’en books. Thanks for the chance to win!
This would make a perfect halloween bookcase for my halloween bookcase 🙂 I collect halloween things and have set up a display with my things. This would be the perfect topper !
I think this would be wonderful to make a small witches altar with the little skull beads, books and some tiny candles with some tiny tarot cards, or possibly a gypsy fortune tellers book case with little glass globes for crystal balls. Endless potential with this kit.
Well, I HAD to read the book in school, but now I GET to make it into a great craft!
It’s great – I love it – I want it!
A “Cabinet of Curiosities”…a bookshelf with a Grimoire and other magical accoutrements…a “specimen cabinet” for a taxidermist…oh, my list of horrors goes on and on!!
lovely!!!!
Very nice giveaway, very different!
I would start my Halloween journey very early!
Ooohhhh! Love the Heart of Darkness Trunk! Way to go Shannon. 😀 And I know exactly what I’d make with this giveaway. A miniature Victorian Cabinet of Curiosities. A rather *dark* cabinet at that. You’ve totally got my mind going!
I see a spellbook shelf in the making with teeny tiny candles attached to some of the skulls which would be sitting on top of it.
Love the “Heart of Darkness trunk” !!!! Great job on the miniatures!! Thanks for the opportunity to win a generous giveaway!!
Furniture for a crones library.
This is one of the best, Just love all the wonderful embellishments with this kit.
Another great giveaway!! Love it!!
Thanks for the opportunity to win such a great box. Don’t know yet what to do with it. My sister is into skulls et al. I would have to ask her for help.
There is nothing I love more than miniatures (except Halloween) so obviously it would be a steamer trunk from a old wizard or creepy ventriloquist with a little dummy! Sailing from the old country to the America’s. Mystery awaits.
I’m getting motivated us thinking about it.
The Heart of Darkness Trunk – I’m a sucker for all the little drawers and the tiny things in them! Bookcase of Darkness – what a great name!
I would make a steampunk gypsy collection of curiosities!
Love this giveaway!
This is really awesome! I’d made a bookcase of treasures for my haunted doll house.
I would make a Nightmare Before Christmas theme. Oh may! Can you imagine the little things that could be made for putting in the trunk!
I could think of a lot of good projects to use from this kit.
…maybe a haunted library ( I love spooky!)
These would be really fun for a shadowbox I’m working on!
The Hawaiian Librarian would love this bookcase project to fill with tiny tomes of children’s classics! Mahalo for the op to win this extraordinary cache of goodness.
I would make some sort of shrine with this giveaway!
I might try my hand at a tribute to Shakespeare – with some Hamlet, Romeo & Juliet, etc.
I don’t know how yet, but I would love to make it bookshelf that could belong to H. P. Lovecraft. A little cosmic horror would be fun!
I love this giveaway!!
I am in dream mode and I am thinking Victorian steam punk meets Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
I would make a Halloween-Edgar Allen Poe library using the TV shrine kit.
It’s so nice of you to continue doing this! This one is so great.
Simply wonderful.
I think that the materials might end up being used for an altar honoring my father. He was a doctor so the skulls would make perfect sense. The books would as well as he was an avid reader.
I truly love all these little projects with the steamer trunks. I have been searching for a life size one for years to add to my collection with drawers and a little desk. It never even occurred to me to make one in miniature.
How fabulous! “Heart of Darkness” is my favorite novel, an illustration on my bookshelf would be awesome.
love to win
A GREAT COLLECTIONS! I love mystery of this kit. Thanx alpha samps. I picture octopuses 😍
I love all the items, I would make a Halloween themed bookcase.
Just calling out to be an alchemist’s bookcase…
Surely something to do with Poe for the bookcase!!
This is really cool!!I think I would make something similar. The trinket box is awesome too.
I would try to use the hand charm as a handle to a cute trinket box.
Definitely something dark! Surely those could be potion/magic books-so we’d not little bottles of eye of newt, and other dark ingredients-and skulls of course. Love all this stuff. Going to check out the paper sale!
Brilliant creation by Shannon referencing Heart Of Darkness, absolutely amazing! I think your giveaway goodies would make a wonderful ‘Clue’ creation, ‘Miss Scarlet in the library with a knife’!
Loving this so much!
I would make the absolutest most amazing halloween miniature laboratory and put it under a glass dome. Pick me!
So many ideas going on in the head. I think I would like to make a sunken treasure box under the sea. Thank you for a chance to win.
The Victorians liked Spiritualism, so that is the theme, with a crystal ball, books on the occult, bones (after all, they were amateur archeologists), and a tiny tea set. Something like my real house is – Victorian Lady with a Sea Captain husband. This allows me to mix lace and roses with shrunken heads and bones! Please, Please let me win this!!!
I would love to have a shot at this one !
melody
I think I would make a “Cabinet of Curiosities.”
I don’t really know just yet what I’d do with it, other than it would be Halloween-themed. Really great items in the giveaway!
I would like to make a tribute to Poe by recreating what I envision his library would look like, on the darker side of course. And with a bit of wit, if I can muster it. Would LOVE to have the chance for a go at this wee creation!
The bookcase shrine is a charmer! What to make with the giveaway items? How about a steampunk/Gypsy caravan/junque shop shelf?
I can just see a cabinet full of things gypsies showcase to sell the curious who happen by their caravan on its way around the countryside. It would be full of all kinds of shivery fun things!
Thank you for the chance to win!
