Mini Haunted Houses!

Filed under Art Projects, Contests/Winners, Halloween, Kristin Batsel

Yes, we’re a bit closer to Halloween than the last time I highlighted haunted houses. Which is why I’m switched gears and I’m featuring 2 smaller haunted house options for today’s artwork and NEW Sale!

It’s actually 6 haunted house options, as 3 related Mini Shrines are in the second project — plus I added 2 more Mini Shrines to the sale that are from that shrine series but not in the artwork!

Note: All of today’s artwork is by that talented Design Team Member Kristin Batsel!

I’ve put the supplies for ALL the artwork below in a new collection and created a discount code for 20% off those suppiles! PLUS a couple more bonus supplies! More info on the sale is below (and remember that all of the supplies mentioned ‘tween here and there are included in the sale)!

Oh, one more announcement: the winner of the Cemetery Shadowbox Kit Giveaway is Rebecca Disher! Check your email for more details.

Tiny 3D Haunted House by Kristin Batsel!

Kristin really adores Halloween… beside the extra Halloween projects she always volunteers for… her Halloween artwork is perfect!

Case in point: today’s Tiny 3D Haunted House. First of all, it’s made from the Tealight Haunted House Kit with Base (related to one of the house shapes from the Mini Haunted House Covers)… you can see a mini photo at left (and that’s the back view… it has a big arch cut in the back facade to help with inserting a Tea Light).

And just look at the pics below of the front side!! Kristin decided to paper over one of the 3 rectangular windows cut in the front so she could make a door (and I love that little “cobblestone” path through the grass to her door)!

And look at all the parts you get in this kit: it includes the platform and the fence pieces and the little tombstones! (Note: there’s a close-up of the tombstones below in the sale section; AND Kristin added a tutorial on how to paint the flat chipboard tombstones to give them a 3D appearance in her blog post!) Here’s a couple tips from that blog post:

The “stone” path in the front is cut from a cardboard egg carton. It’s got the perfect texture for pavers.

The windows in this little house are actually thin sheets of mica. Here in the front windows, I put the image of the child behind the mica, so it looks like she’s inside. The pumpkin is in front of the mica so it looks like it’s outside, sitting on the windowsill.

I used mica in the window because the house is designed to accommodate a tea light. When it’s dark, you can light it up and it looks so spooky!

Teeny Tiny Halloween Shriney (x3!) by Kristin Batsel!

I LOVE these petite shrines! And check out that pic at right to see the 3D mouse Kristin added to the Big Cat Mini Shrine! (I also love the cardboard facade she added with the cats mouth and teeth.)

From Kristin’s blog post:

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: college football, and Halloween crafting. Yay! Today I present to you three out of the five adorable mini Halloween shrines just released from Alpha Stamps. The opening of each one measures just 2″ by 2″. The tallest one shown is a little less than 6″ tall. So cute! Here’s what I did with mine…

For the Raven October Shrine, I painted the front with acrylics, and gave the raven a witch hat and a red rhinestone eye. Three tiny trick or treaters stand on a bed of moss and select from the available pumpkins. I considered printing out the “pumpkin patch” sign, but every pumpkin patch I’ve ever been to seems to sport a crudely painted sign, so I hand painted the sign in the interest of historical accuracy.

Here’s Kristin’s supply list and be sure to visit Kristin’s original blog for more photos and tips!
