The Sea and The Sun Bar & Grill by Rhonda Thomas!

How fun! Design Team Member Rhonda Thomas created this tiny bar scene from papers included in the July Kit (and it is tiny: that cabana house shrine is just 5-1/2″ tall)!

Everything in her little patio is sitting on the top step of the Stairstep Shrine Base (with the Under The Sea Chipboard Border running around the edge — painted a nice bright coral). Attaching everything to that shrine base a great way of containing (and transporting) the project. Even the Palm Trees are attached to the back of the base so they can come along, too.

Here’s some of the intro text from Rhonda’s blog post:

Are you tired of the same old humdrum of each day? Need a break and a place where everybody knows your name? Well then come on down to The Sea and The Sun Bar & Grill!

Did I mention we have a live mermaid tank behind the bar? You’ll see swimming performances throughout the day and have a chance to capture a photo with Betty or one of her mermaid sisters.

Ok, ok, enough of my commercial chatter. But it was just too good of an opportunity to help showcase some of the darling items in my mini Bar & Grill.

The Palm Tree Silhouettes just really pulled this project together for me. It gave the whole mini scene a warm, tropical feel and reminded me of one of my favorite islands. There are lots of angles that would require some time to trim, if I had covered them in paper. But then an easy idea floated into my mind.

For the patio border, I used regular craft acrylic paint on both sides of a Under The Sea Chipboard Border, and after drying with a heat gun, attached with liquid glue.

The table was simple. I used a round paper punch to get a perfect circle from the Coastal Summer Brights 12×12 Paper Set. After attaching the paper to my table top, I used a sharp blade to cut several slits all around the table. This allowed me to fold each slit down to form a table cloth.

I weaved the same paper through the Half Scale White Lawn Chair, to create the look of matching chair cushions.

I love this project, Rhonda! Everything is so bright and summery! I didn’t even get to the new miniature glasses and pitcher set (and polymer cane slices in those margaritas) but read on as they inspired the new Flash Sale!

Here’s Rhonda’s supply list and blog post. There’s more info and another photo in the Giveaway section below, too.

What else is new today?

TONS of Dresden trims! Yay! Bright colors for summer or Halloween! Plus more miniature glasses & pitchers that Rhonda used. There are 15 new & back-in-stock items today, so more than the highlights below.

The Sea and The Sun Giveaway!

There’s another photo of the whole scene! For this Giveaway prize, I’ve picked out things here and there that caught my eye, starting with the Palm Trees. (Note: Rhonda has tutorials on painting the trees and on making the round tablecloth on her blog post!)

Working my way from back to front, the next item is the Cabana House Niche Shrine (plus the Tiny Scalloped Shingles: cute used as a border around the window and looking like waves).

Keeping with the broad strokes, you’ll need a table and a chair — and and the platform to sit them on.

Finishing up with the pitcher and margarita glass on the table. Plus the collage sheet with the mermaid entertainment behind the bar!

Whew! That’s nine items!

Love the artwork! The cabana rocks! What I’m really excited about… And it may seem anti-climactic after this really cool piece… But those two platforms are perfect! Perfect size for the smaller projects. It was aggravating having to make the smaller platforms and now that you have them I’m so excited! As always, You guys are the only ones that ever seem to think ahead… You have to know how grateful we are!
