Cute! The new Double Layer Window Insert was inspired by the Double Layer Windows (with 2 layers, perfect for adding faux snow — and there are 2 new faux snow options below). Back to the new insert: that solid area shown at the bottom of the insert could also be used at the top (maybe for a store sign).

First off (regarding inspiration for this new insert set), I picked some Christmas collage sheet images that fit behind this insert (just imagine the image set back a little inside the tin… add some snow in the corners of those window panes and you’re half way to a sweet Christmas gift or ornament). THREE of the 12 options I photo’ed are directly below and here’s a link for all the collage sheets I chose (the other 9 are shown in photos farther below).

Second inspiration for the new inserts: Snow Queen Shadowbox by Laura Carson!

Through the window, you can see a little boy having a magical experience encountering the frosty Snow Queen. She sparkles in the frosty night and the boy looks on with wonder. Flanking the window scene are various snowflakes, frosty picks, and beads.

The structure of the shadowbox is made from the Double Pane Window Shadowbox Lid and a 4″ x 6″ Shadowbox.

I started by painting the area around the window cutout blue. Next, I painted the window overlay white.

Next, I glued an image from the Snow Queen Collage Sheet. It’s popped up with double stick foam tape so that it is easier to see through the windows.

To the bottom front, I added a Snowflake Border painted white.

Faux Snow and even more Window Inspiration

Ah… here’s some fluffy snow (no sparkles) and some German glass glitter (very sparkly)!

Either could be used as faux snow in the windowpanes (or maybe start with fluffy then add a little glitter on just the top).

Santa’s Workshop Diorama (also by Laura Carson)!

Wow! Laura Carson has created a whole Santa’s workshop village using three of the Large Haunted House Shadowboxes! (Plus a bunch of chipboard trims AND miniature toys). Check Laura’s blog post for lots more pictures and a tutorial!

Laura designed FIVE collage sheets for this project (tons of vintage toys, plus deer and elves and icicles)!

Everything in this wintry scene is covered in sparkling ice and snow. In the center is a decorated tree standing on a giant drum, near Santa’s sleigh. (Laura includes a section in her tutorial on making and decorating the sleigh.)

If you peek in the windows you’ll see lots of toys and elves at work. Santa’s doing his last minute check of his list.
