Collage Supplies: Playing Cards/Tarot Cards

Spanish Playing Cards

Spanish playing/fortune telling cards. Similar to Tarot cards, but there is no Major Arcana. The Spanish deck has forty-eight cards; each suit has pip cards from 1 (ace) to 9, ending with a knave (Sota/Jack), a cavalier (Caballo/Knight) and a king (Rey). The latter bear the numbers: 10, 11 and 12, respectively. The suits are Copas (Cups), Oros (Coins), Bastos (Clubs) and Espadas (Swords). Red and white patterned backs.

They are 2-3/8" x 3-5/8" size, so even if you don't want to use the images, they are still a good size to make into ATCs (a tad off standard size, but I wouldn't quibble).

$2.29/deck of 48 (boxed)

History of Typography Playing Cards

We designed a set of playing cards using four historical eras important in the development of lettering as the four suits. In addition to the typography theme, each suit features letters from 1/2 of the alphabet (so two entire alphabets are illuminated in this deck). The following introduction to the suits is printed on a cover card:

  • The Columns suit uses Roman capitals chiseled on the Trajan Column.
  • The Banners suit uses Medieval Lombardic capitals that were hand-painted in manuscripts.
  • Escutcheons use early metal type from the infancy of printing.
  • Calligraphy uses ornamental calligraphy from the Baroque era.

They are 2-3/4 x 4-1/4", printed in crisp black ink on 100 lb matte-coated cover stock. (Note: these cards were designed as a client gift for our parent company, Capacis.)

You can buy the whole deck or just a suit for using in collage projects.
