Halloween, Christmas and Haunted Pub Signs

Filed under Christmas, Contests/Winners, Halloween, Kristin Batsel, Lora Mahaffey

Pub signs? Yes, two projects by the Design Team used the Pediment Tombs (one of which is back in stock this week) and Lora Mahaffey turned both tombs into spooky pub signs! More info on those (and a related discount code for 20% off all the supplies used are below).

But first: a mix of new and back in stock Halloween and Christmas items! Note: there are more new items than the 8 shown here, you can see them all here.

We have an annoucement: the winner of the Nightfall Lantern Kit Giveaway is Sharon House! Check your email for more details.

Haunted Pub Signs by Lora Mahaffey!

Before I let Lora tell you about her inspiration for these wonderfully creative signs, a little info on the Tomb Sets they’re made from: There are 2 sets, each is a heavy chipboard base with a medium-weight chipboard overlay (so the pediments or window frames have more dimension). One is shown below with one of the Miniature Reliquaries (for size comparison).

“I love the charming signs you see in the UK hanging from the buildings advertising various wares, restaurants and pubs. Most of them are suspended by wrought iron brackets and so many of them are funny, odd and eccentric. My favorite pub in England is in the beautiful and pretty dang old city of York. It’s a tiny place in an authentic Norman building constructed in 1180. (!!!) You wend your way up a very dark, narrow stairway that suddenly opens up into a beautiful and kind of creepy (but smallish) pub that cranks out some of the best food in the city. The beams up there are from a ship that sailed the seas eight hundred years ago.

The place is called The House of Trembling Madness. Gotta love it.

And the icing on the cake, or the foam on the beer, is that to get to the stairway you have to walk through the most amazing beer shop I’ve ever seen. It’s a beer drinker’s Nirvana.

And they have a really cool sign… “

See all of the parts in the Haunted Pub Signs Supply List. Visit Lora’s Blog for more details, tutorial and photos.

(Psst! See that skeleton sitting on the wooden base over on the bottom left of that large photo? Lora did a tutorial on how to make an articulated skeleton!)

Note: this project was made before we moved to the current site in 2018, so use the links above for the supplies — all included in the new sale, too!

Temperence and Auroria Play Amongst the Crypts by Kristin Batsel!

Now we have two delightful tombs with Victorian babes, by Kristin Batsel!

First up: Temperence. She gets bored sitting at home, so she loves to decorate the crypts in the nearby cemetery. Here she’s placed several carved pumpkins around the base of the crypt, and is busy stringing up some smaller jack o’lanterns to hang as lanterns. It’s dusk, and she’s evidently disturbed a few bats, who fly around her head.

To help Temperence stand out, I used adhesive foam tape to attach her to the crypt. The columns and the black vines also help to give this piece a 3D look.

Here’s Temperence’s younger sister, Auroria. She’s known as a bit of a flibbertigibbet. Somehow, she’s managed to open the spiderweb gate and gain admission to the interior of this crypt. She hasn’t got a care in the world, running around with her glowing jack o’lantern and her three skully balloons. I hope that rat doesn’t bite her. That sucker is huge!

Good job, Kristin! I love all the pencilled-in details to give the flat chipboard columns and gate posts more dimension. Read more, and see more photos in Kristin’s blog post, and see her Supply List.
