Becoming a Steampunk Mermaid – Steampunk 50% off!!

Filed under Art Projects, Beneath the Sea Kit, Giveaways, Newsletters, Rhonda Secrist Thomas, Sale, Steampunk

Note: most of the links on this post no longer work, as we moved to a new Web site in 2018. However, you can see the supply list items from Rhonda’s project that are still available on the new site.

I was inspired by today’s Steampunk Mermaid artwork by Rhonda Secrist Thomas, so I’ve just put the ENTIRE Steampunk Collage Sheets section on sale for 50% off now through Monday night, July 11th!

30 collage sheets from goggles and latches and metal bits, to cabinet card portraits and men in their flying machines!

Design Team Member Rhonda Secrist Thomas started with the Beneath the Sea Kit and mixed it up with lots of steampunk elements to create a whole undersea world in her Becoming a Steampunk Mermaid!

To start off my summer, girls fresh out of school, my body decided to become sick for 2-1/2 weeks, like it’s never been sick before. [Sorry, Rhonda!] So I decided to go on a huge voyage, beneath the sea, to a place where Mermaids and Mermen live in both their native setting and in a huge steampunk community. I couldn’t believe I discovered such a place and I was in awe with the sites that I saw.

On one side, you can see the inside of the community’s walls. There are places to relax, gather with fellow fishy friends and a train station.

Every once in a while, you get the weird human that discovers this marvelous place. They just stare from outside like peeping Toms. Better not let the Mermaids catch you though. You won’t like what they do.

I love how Rhonda uses the Castle Album in multiple ways (she shows it laced together like an accordion book, and also set up like an actual castle with walls enclosing an inner space.

I also love how she merged images of Victorians with mermaid tails to add extra creatures to her scene.

Visit Rhonda’s blog post to learn how to make jewel-embellished windows with Glossy Accents (and see more lots more photos of her underwater realm)!

As Rhonda used an ocean’s-worth of goodies in her project, I had lots of choices for items to choose today’s Giveaway from (see below), here’s a good start on her Supply List (but even more are listed on her blog post).

I LOVE THIS!! You took my two FAVORITE things (steampunk and mermaids) and merged them together! I would have picked steampunk and mermaids…… lol but since you already have done it…and did an AMAZING job might I add!! I will say either a witch~mermaid (great for Halloween) or a fairy~mermaid…complete with wings and all!! Those are a few more of my favorite things to create with! =0)

  4. I’ll head to the sea shore with mine wee grandbebes to find MORE seashells to adorn our mer-lady-babies.

  5. Deb Horgan says:

Love the kit. My daughter just had a baby and we had a Mermaid theme. This will do nicely to make a book.

  6. Phoebe Diamond says:

Large land predators and merpeople merges sound intriguing. Then again, so do basic kitchen appliances.

The sea and steampunk, how fun is that!

  17. barb macaskill says:

I have heard stories of Mermaids that have wings and can take to the air if necessary! I think I would have to merge a fairy with the Mermaid tail and possibly even some gnomes and trolls! They live on the outskirts of Mermaid Land because they are so outnumbered by full Mermaids and Mermen! Their numbers are increasing rapidly though so they may soon try to takeover Mermaid Land! I told them to approach in a friendly manner and see if they would be accepted by the Mermaids before trying to start a war!

I love this wonderland! I have recently turned my 1/2 bath, which is downstairs and under my staircase into an “under the sea” theme, complete with mermaids, whales, beach glass and other treasures from under the sea. Creating this under the sea castle would be a nice addition to my new room. I think I would create a mermaid and merman family – adults and children, and perhaps a pet or two with tails! Muses for all!

  19. Heather Cook says:

Umf – that steampunk seahorse is amazing.

  27. LeAnn says:
