An Alice in Wonderland Sleigh?!

Filed under Alice in Wonderland, Art Projects, Collage Sheets, Giveaways, Laura Carson, Newsletters

Note: most of the links on this post no longer work, as we moved to a new Web site in 2018. However, you can see the supply list items from Laura’s project that are still available on the new site.

Design Team Member Laura Carson presents a Holiday Sleigh with Alice In Wonderland Twist!

Oh no, it looks like Hatter has stolen the Queen’s sleigh and she doesn’t look happy about it. Of course, she’s never happy about anything. Isn’t it a beautiful sleigh all decked out for the holidays pulled by 4 flamingo reindeer. Flamingo reindeer make more sense to me because at least flamingos fly! (See below for the reindeer.. and the Queen standing on a staircase cleverly made from mini playing cards inserted in the the pages of a book.)

Isn’t the table set up just to die for? The table is complete with a sweet cake (made from buttons!) and other tasty treats. Laura used a bit of her own lace to cover the table with, but we have some new super adorable Dollhouse Doilies and Shelf Edging (in a much smaller scale) that would be lovely under some dollhouse-sized plates. You know what else is fabulous? The crooked candlesticks and the teapot that is pouring itself!

“One of the main pieces on the table is the pair of crooked candlestick holders. I started with the bead cap and glued the first bead on at a slight angle. This is definitely a job for E6000 glue. Once the glue was dry, I added the next bead and so on until finally adding the filigree to the top. It’s really important to let the glue dry thoroughly between each piece before adding another piece.

“Lastly, I glued the teapot at an angle on one of the candlestick holders and a candle on the other. As you can see, I glued together a stack of plates and cups in a staggered fashion, again using E6000. I painted the cups and saucers bright colors using Patina Paints, or you could use the cute new Floral Tea Set if you didn’t want to paint.”

[Note: you could also buy a large set of plastic cups and saucers to paint in wild colors.]

So how is the tea pouring out of the pot? I cannot tell you (but Laura will in her tutorial) except that it is through the magic of Glossy Accents!

Hey, who won the Christmas Trinket Stand Giveaway? That would be Karen Mallory!

And she replied to my query “How would you decorate your Trinket Stand? Do you like the shelves or open one better (though this Giveaway includes the one with shelves)? What would you put in the drawer?”

I love the shelf one! I am thinking maybe a mini women’s accessories display for a store with mini hats and purses! In the drawer I would put mini knitted scarves!

I would use bunnies or squirrels to pull my sleigh!!! What else would Fairies want to pull their sleigh? LOL
Just wanted to let you know that I am almost done decorating my Tea Cottage that I won and will be sharing photos soon!!! THANK YOU AGAIN!! TFS!

  2. Cherie Day says:

The pink flamingos are great! but I would use owls, keep the antlers and add wings 🙂

  3. Holly says:

Door mice! Although I suppose they’d keep falling asleep, so they might not be best suited to pull the sleigh.

  4. I think storks would be neat and have the sleigh filled with little babies.

  5. Sarah Lynch says:

Wow I am just blown away by Laura’s creativity! My sister is a huge Alice fan and I have made her Alice pieces before…but nothing this fantastic! I would love to make something similar, maybe having the Red Queen at the helm and her minions pulling the sleigh…

  6. Alice Wilkotz says:

I would definitely use pink flamingos: they are the unofficial bird of Baltimore, the home of John Waters!

  7. Phoebe Diamond says:

Chess pieces, Knights at the lead and pawns behind.

  8. jean marmo says:

This is so fun! Those flamingos really threw me for a minute! I would love to try something but not sure about the flamingos!!

  11. Margery McInerny says:

The flamingos can’t be outdone. Laura’s creative muse blows me away.

I agree with Margery… the flamingos are not to be denied. Differnt than I might see them but nevertheless they can’t be beat!

  13. Mary Helene says:

Love the idea of Alice in Wonderland sleigh. I would use cats to pull the sleigh.

  14. Jen R says:

Like the flamingos but tweedle dee and tweedle dum would probably be more my style..

  15. Flamingo reindeer?! What will the clever and diabolical-but-only-for-good Laura think of next?! This entire homage to Alice in Wonderland via Winter Wonderland is an absolute delight! How I wished my mind worked as hers does!…and that I was blessed with the patience to make it all come to fruition so fantastically!

  16. joan says:

I would definitely use flamingos to pull the sleigh, but add pink feathers for wings (I mean, why not?).

  17. Lana says:

I’d use Great Danes to pull this sleigh, ones that looked like my Alfie, of course!

I would stick with the reindeer, cuz that’s what Santa uses on his sleigh. I can’t believe it’s December, and Christmas is right around the corner! It would be so nice to finally win an Alpha Stamps giveaway after all these years 🙂 Happy Holidays to all!!

  23. Sandylynn says:

I really really wish I could take a walk thru your imagination when it is working up an idea! WOW.

  24. Traci says:

Love Alice in Wonderland-great project by Laura. The tiny tea set is so cute.>^..^<

  25. Daylan says:

I would not flamingos pulling my sleigh. I don’t think they are used to the cold weather necessary for a sleigh, but they are perfect for a mad Wonderland. Because it’s a sleigh and there are a lot of hearts in Alice, this would be part of an Alice in Wonderland display in February.
    Thank you for another opportunity!

  26. Kat Cashwell says:

This is so creative! The mad hatter would have to be Santa & his elf the Cheshire Cat! Flamingo reindeers would be perfect! Thanks kat

I really love all things Alice. Flamingo reindeer, hedgehog elves. Thanks for all the great ideas!

  31. Rosemarie Grant says:

I,too, like the Flamingo but I think the White Rabbit would be fun as well. He could be the lead with his “I’m late, I’m late” watch and the Cheshire Cat beside him with her/his sign pole giving directions.

  32. Kathlene Ford-Walters says:

Absolutely! Flamingo reindeer would be great, especially to send on Xmas cards for Florida family and friends. Thanks for the Christmas giveaway.

As a huge Alice in Wonderland fan and collector it was interesting to see something fabulous and related to a different holiday than Easter (All those rabbits, you know). I’d like to thank for teaching me the word “chimeric”. But I must admit, I’d rather wee something pulling the sleigh that would look cute with a red nose… perhaps a dormouse or, dare I say it, rabbit head on the reindeer body?

  45. Kim Lucak says:

So fun! Love Alice in Wonderland and the pink flamingos add some punch to Christmas 🙂

I already have all my downloads ready to go. Digital is perfect for me as we all work in quarter 1:48th scale. Love your site

  57. LeAnn says:

Definitely the flamingos. They are so Alice in Wonderland. Amazing work Laura!

  58. Roxanne says:
