Suuuuper cute creation using the Cute As A Button Kit by Design Team Member Lora Mahaffey!

Inspired by one of my most favorite movies, Coraline, Lora said:

“In the book and movie, the “other mother” wants to sew button eyes on Coraline, but she resists. Oops! Looks like she got one. I have to admit, I creeped myself out with this one.

I started out making the house shape from a template I drew and cut the shape out of a piece of 8×8 Heavy Chipboard. I sized the smaller piece of chipboard (covered in the polka dot paper from the Sew Lovely 6×6 Paper Pad) to the house shape. After covering both pieces with paper (that striped paper is also from the Sew Lovely 6×6 Paper Pad), sanded them down around the edges and inked them up to make them look kind of old and worn.

I glued Doll Buttons – 4mm Black to the little girl’s eyes and sewed her mouth shut (ick!) with regular needle and thread. I aged the image the same way as I did the chipboard.”

Aren’t you loving the New! Favorite Findings Big Buttons – Black & White used as wheels and the spider from the Garden Insects Cut-Outs up on top?

AND if you don’t want to cut your own house shapes, check out the (New and On Sale!) Wood House Shapes below! So cute and in 3 sizes (and I think that little one would make a darling fairy door)!

Before you wheel yourself on over to visit Lora, you might want to peek at her supply list. You can see more photos and get additional tips on how Lora created her artwork here.

Hooray for the Aqua Blue, Birds & Houses Giveaway!

I started with the cool aqua blue stripes from the back of the Sew Lovely Darling Doilies Scrapbook Paper (did you notice that Lora used large and small stripes in her artwork? I like the mix from the full size and the mini print from the 6×6 pad)… which led to more aqua items, then some birds (and spiders?) to work with the houses and buttons).

First, here are all of these items from Lora’s Cute as a Button artwork (note: that’s a link to photos of all the supplies):
– Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice Collage Sheet
– Doll Buttons – 4mm Black
– 8×8 Heavy Chipboard
– Sew Lovely Darling Doilies Scrapbook Paper
– Sew Lovely 6×6 Paper Pad (half a pad, so one each of all 12 papers)

Then, I added these New! items:
Wood House Shape – Large
Wood House Shape – Medium
Wood House Shape – Small
3/4 Inch Black Buttons
1 Inch Miniature Chickadees

AND some blocks to use as stands for the houses:
7/8 Inch Wooden Cube Block
1 Inch Wooden Cube Block
1-1/2 Inch Wooden Cube Block

(Remember Lora’s Eeek! Goblins! Plaques? See more of Lora's project using blocks as plaque stands in the blog.)

And then (whew!) these aqua or bird-themed or spidery items ALL On Sale!:
Holiday Jubilee Bow on Top Scrapbook Paper
Nostalgic Birds Scrapbook Paper
Bird Cage Twill Tape – Aqua
Wood Bird Cages
Antique Brass Birdcage Charm
