New Landscaping for Spring, Altoid Tin Trims – 25% off SALE!
Filed under Alice in Wonderland, Altered Tins, Easter, Grimms' Fairy Tales, Kristin Batsel, Laura Carson, Lora Mahaffey
A little Valentine’s Day, a little Easter (or tiny landscaping for a spring miniatures project) — and a BIG bunch of savings: 25% off!
The first sale is EVERYTHING Altoids Tin Themed (such a useful group of goodies… from collage sheets to the tins themselves and chipboard inserts in various themes).
Those fun Rectangular Resin Heart Tarts shown at right reminded me of a cute project using the same by Design Team Member Kristin Batsel: Alice at Tea (highlighted directly below). Plus I’ve brought back the Altoids Tin Insert Frames – Alice in that artwork!
All of today’s new items AND TWO more art projects are included in the second sale group! (Even more chipboard trims in those projects are back in stock, too.) BOTH sales use the same COUPON CODE (more info below for an extra 25% off)!
Alice at Tea by Kristin Batsel
The base of the tin is made from letters from an old spelling game, the porcelain hand on top holds a tasty looking tart, and is surrounded by the White Rabbit’s pocket watch and a key. To adhere all of those items I used Apoxie Sculpt.
The Cheshire Cat insert from the Altoid Tin Insert Frames – Alice set and it is great for adding extra dimension. The details on the trees and cat were done with colored pencils, while the insert border was painted to match the color of the background paper I chose. I used a tiny brush to apply bright white paint to accent the cat’s eyes and teeth.
Here’s Kristin’s supply list (part of today’s sale, too).
We’re All Mad Here Altered Tin by Lora Mahaffey
I completely agree with Lora: “this red, black and white theme — very eye catching!”
(After painting my tin black) I glued my pre-cut papers on the tin and then I glued little corks on the back of my Alice to bring her forward in the tin, and did the same for a couple of the paper roses so that they were at different depths inside the tin. The corks work out well as they are light weight and tapered and easy to work with.
Breaking in here briefly: great idea about the corks! Plus they’re tall (thicker than sticky foam) so you can get Alice to pop out to the front of the tin quicker.
I added Dresden Trim to the outside edge of the tin, then glued the insert on to the top edge of the tin. after that dried, I glued on the Loopy Altoids Topper (back in stock) to the top and let it dry.
Here’s Lora’s supply list and see more of her tutorial on her blog post.
Grimm’s Fairy Tarot
This is such a great idea! Laura Carson made fairy tale tarot cards and a pretty tin to house them (made from an Altoids Tin and the Fairy Tale Frames Altoid Inserts Set).
As Laura says in her blog post:
I was racking my brain trying to think of some kind of interesting twist on the Grimm theme and the idea of fate popped into my mind. I decided to expand the theme beyond Snow White by including other Grimm fairy tales which in turn led to the idea of making Tarot cards.
For me the best part of the project was choosing the images for each card (there were so many to choose from). My favorites are Red Riding Hood as The Fool, Puss in Boots as the Knight of Swords and Sleeping Beauty pricking her finger as the Wheel of Fortune.
Hm… I think Rapunzel as The Hermit is a witty choice, too.
And don’t you fret about making your own set, Laura is giving away the collage sheet with the labels for the entire deck (although she only made 15 cards, as that number would fit in an Altoids Tin). AND she has a good suggestion/link to a past tutorial on hinging 2 tins together to make room for more cards.
Laura is also giving away the little snippet of text she designed (“TAROT”) to coordinate with the words “GRIMM’S” and “FAIRY” from the Grimm Covers #3 Collage Sheet so you can recreate her cover title.
So… ready to start thinking up your own Grimm’s Fairy Tarot? Before you begin, head over to Laura’s blog to read more tips. As we moved sites since the original post, remember to use this link for all the supplies Laura used and be sure to come back for info on the sale on all her supplies.
