New Happy Halloween Kit
Wow! That’ll wake you up! This kit is so bright and cheery (and filled with fun mid-century Halloween graphics — mainly black cats) that you’ll get giddy just looking at it!
OK… here’s the dish:
– Five HALF sheets of double-sided scrapbook paper (so that’s 6″ x 12″ sheets). I picked out papers from a couple different lines chosen for color, tiny prints (good for backgrounds on small projects), and crazy mid-century-inspired images!
– TWO new collage sheets — both with tons of options for a Halloween card, invitation or ATC (or a small book cover). These are all sized to fit on ATCs or to use as a topper: with a head, paws or signage peeking out above the top of an ATC.
– A new Tombstone Accordion Book! So Cute! This is a laser-cut (and scored) cardstock strip for folding into a book with 8 panels. The folded size is a hair bigger (taller and wider) than ATC size.
– AND a bonus only available in this kit: a set of 2 laser-cut cardstock spider webs! Note: these are similar to the corner web in the new Black Spider & Webs Shape Set, but this set of 2 (and cut from a lighter color paper) are only in this kit!
Go see the new kit for more info and more photos (plus more coordinating goodies and artwork by TWO Design Team Members are below).
TWO Halloween Projects by Rhonda Thomas!
Design Team Member Rhonda Thomas has made two absolutely ADORABLE Halloween projects, both using papers from the new kit!
Starting with this accordion book (with a cool bottle tree) shown at left and below (yes, that’s the same accordion book included in the kit)! I love that tree! Rhonda covered it in miniature bottles. And she shares some of the history of bottle trees on her blog post:
I knew I needed something creative for my Creepy Tree, and then it hit me. Bottles, lots of hanging bottles. I remembered seeing a tree in South Carolina years ago, covered in hanging bottles. So of course I had to find out the story behind the decorated tree.
The legend goes that evil spirits are drawn to the bottles when the light of the moon reflects off the glass. The spirits enter into the bottles and become trapped inside where they are forced to stay for the rest of the night. To signal their displeasure at being confined they can often be heard moaning when the wind blows through the bottle tree. When the sun rises the next morning, the sunlight burns and destroys the evil spirits trapped inside the bottles. The empty bottles are then free to lie in wait for the next wandering soul that may happen by when nightfall arrives.
I also love the gate on the front of the accordion book (above — with 2 images from the new Retro Halloween Cards & Tags Collage Sheet) AND the Mini Gothic Fences below (lots of fences in this piece)!
But wait… there’s another project! Rhonda made a triptych from the new (and much larger) Large Chipboard Tombstone Set — also using paper from the new Happy Halloween 12×12 Collection Pack. I like the large tombstones as backgrounds for scenes… nevermind using them as actual tombstones.
Be sure to visit Rhonda’s blog for more photos of both projects; and here are supply lists for each: Accordion Book with Tree and Large Triptych.
Halloween At The Cemetery, a Candle Holder by Kristin Batsel!
Design Team Member Kristin Batsel made a decorated candle using scrapbook papers from the new kit (and the chipboard reliquaries from a past kit… related in shape to the 2 new tombstone items announced today).
From Kristin’s blog post:
More Halloween! This month, Alpha Stamps sent me some small reliquaries. What to do, what to do? I’m not sure what made me think of making a candle holder, but now that it’s done, I’m glad I did. This will be such fun to add to the mantle this year. *Note, to avoid any sort of fire hazard, I’ll be sure to only use a battery operated candle in this holder.
I painted all the tombstones with a mixture of paints and added papers, charms, rub on type, and collage sheet images to create five different tombstones. This little graveyard is littered with pumpkins, a witch’s broom, and bones that were snapped off of a plastic skeleton. It’s pretty easy to just break those bones off at the joints.
Here lies Edgar Allan Poe. I used rub on type to indicate the year of his death, and for the RIP written on the gravestone to the right (over the new ginger snap spectrum paper — that one and the black one below are also in the new kit). To make the bats fly, I used a thin wire and literally just shoved it into the rubber bodies of the bats (poor things!). The wire was sandwiched between the two pieces of chipboard before gluing the gravestones together. Clothespins were used to hold the pieces tight while drying.
As always, Kristin always provides good tips! Visit Kristin’s blog for more fun photos and don’t forget her supply list to find all those Halloween supplies!
