Matchboxes for Christmas

New Kit!
How cute is this? The aqua and red colors from the Jingle 6×6 Paper Pad started this whole kit rolling… the kit includes 1 each of all 6 paper designs from this retro Christmas paper set.
Next up: 2 new collage sheets with some snarky (some not) tags & labels in a matching mid-century style.
Special thanks to Design Team Members Kristin and Shannon for help with the snarkiness! Only slightly NSFW (things like “He sees you when you’re drinking…” may offend some).
Some of those labels fit the new Tree Ornament Matchbox (TWO of which are included in the kit — and check out Laura Carson’s artwork below (in the Giveaway section) to see a whole advent calendar of ornaments made from these matchboxes).
Plus a little Tiny Houses Accordion Book that can fit in one of those matchboxes, and a set of acrylic snowflakes.
Go see the new kit for more info and more photos.
New Artwork #1: A Kitschy Christmas Matchbox by Kristin Batsel!
How fun! Design Team Member Kristin Batsel made this Kitschy Christmas Matchbox with the new Big Chunky Matchbox with Window – 3×5!
(Yes, as that size implies, there is also a (new) smaller chunky matchbox with a window… and I believe Kristin is going to have another project using that size next week!)
There are actually 4 new chunky matchboxes today: there’s this 3×5 size with a window and also one without a window. All 4 styles come with parts for a heavy chipboard shadowbox, plus a die-cut (lighter weight chipboard) scored piece to make the cover.
From Kristin’s blog post:
Be still my heart: PINK bottle brush Christmas trees! When I saw these trees I just had to do something with them! Using the new 3″ by 5″ Chunky Matchbox with Window, I made a little kitschy Christmas scene. The pink tree looks great with my favorite color combo of turquoise and red, and of course I had to line the box opening with some pink pom poms. A little turquoise deer I had got a new set of eyes (spot of black paint) and a shiny red nose (tiny red crystal). I tied a little bit of baker’s twine around his neck to make him dapper, and used a few layers of foam tape to attach him to the back of the box.
I love the zippy red-and-white stripe paper showing on the top of the box (from the new Jingle 6×6 Paper Pad). And that “December 25” red tag and cute Santa on the back (the former from the Tim Holtz Snippets Tiny Die-Cuts – Christmas Ephemera and latter from the new Snarky Xmas Tags Collage Sheet).
Beside these highlights, here’s the full supply list! And be sure to visit Kristin’s blog for more photos and tips!
More New Products!
Just a snippet from 25 new products (!) are shown at left. From all the new Jingle papers to all the new Collage Sheets (yes, more than the 2 in the kit).
Some of these new things (especially the pink scrapbook papers) are featured in Laura’s matchboxes below.

Hooray for the Matchbox Advent Calendar Ornaments Giveaway!
Oh… my… Design Team Member Laura Carson
made TWENTY FIVE ornaments from the new matchboxes!
I’ll start with some text from Laura’s blog post then move on to goodies from her project included in today’s Giveaway:
‘Tis the season for Christmas projects and I have a few seasonal projects coming your way. The first is a set of matchbox advent calendar ornaments. I can imagine how fun it would be for kids to scan the tree each day looking for the day’s ornament then opening the box to reveal a small gift or treat.
There is nothing complicated about this project which is made up of cutting and gluing, a good project to work on at night while watching TV. The matchboxes I used are larger than the ones you find in the store which means you can insert larger items. They are made from a simple pre-scored two-piece kit, just fold and glue to make a matchbox.
The inspiration for the color scheme and design comes from the Christmas in the Village Countdown Scrapbook Paper with its twenty-four snow covered house with the number in the middle.
Nice job, Laura!
First off for this Giveaway: I’m including TWO sheets of the Christmas in the Village Countdown Scrapbook Paper and also a set of the new Jingle 12×12 Paper Set. (See Laura’s post for how she doubled up the numbers from the 24 houses to give the fronts of the matchboxes some dimension, which is why I’m including 2 sheets… plus that 12×12 paper set has EIGHT pages so you’ll have lots of options for covering your matchboxes.)
So… matchboxes: I’m going to include SIX matchboxes (not a full 25… but that’s a good chunk to work with).
And see all those fun charms (and buttons) Laura has hanging as drawer pulls from the bottoms of her matchboxes? I’m going to include all of these options:
– New Large Hollow Silver Star Charms
– New Printed Wooden Christmas Stockings Buttons
– New 3D Silver Ice Skate Charm (I kinda love this charm)
– Tiny Ceramic Nutcracker Soldier Bead
– Santa Sleigh Silver Charm Set (that will give you 6 options right there!)
See all the lovely things Laura used in her supply list (though “only” those listed above are included in today’s drawing). And visit Laura’s blog post for more photos (and tutorial info, too)!
