Birds & Cages and Tales of Roses

Pretty, shabby chic papers were the inspiration for this Birds & Cages Kit. With a mix of vintage handwritten letters, roses, lace and sheet music, they have subtle textures perfect for the base of a romantic collage (and two collage sheets will provide lots of options for a focal point). Plus the kit includes new metal charms and a petite chipboard bird cage set.
There is also a related Tales of Roses Add-On Kit with a similar romantic theme, but with more saturated colors… more info below.
Back to what is in this kit, there are THREE 12″ x 12″ scrapbook papers; two from the House of Roses line (a related 6×6 pad is also available, though not included in the kit) and one sheet from the Serendipity line (again, there is another sheet available). Note: I’m showing the fronts & backs of the 3 sheets in the photo at right.
This kit also includes TWO collage sheets:
– New! Victorian Ephemera – Birds Collage Sheet (A variety of bits and bobs… recolored and amended to work with the palette of the Birds & Cages Kit — and with birds sized to fit the new 2″, 3″ and 4″ chipboard cages… more on those cages is below.)
– Blue Birds Collage Sheet (Beautiful images from the vintage postcard collection of Wendy Anderson. More collage sheets by Wendy are under the Polliwog & Dragonfly name.)
Two new charms:
– Fancy Silver Birdhouse Charm (So cute! And I love how Kristin cut a little window to fit this charm into one of her tags — see artwork below.)
– Silver Bird Connector Charm (With 2 loops so you can hang it as a charm, with an extra loop at the bottom for a little dangly bead — or using it as a connector between 2 lengths of chain.)
And finally, the 2 Inch Cage with Solid Back! A sweet little 2-part chipboard birdcage, laser cut from lightweight chipboard. See the artwork below (or at right) for this bird cage in a set of mixed tags, and also used as a hat! More info on Lora’s clever card.

I think I would make it a 3D birdcage and have little gnomes or Trolls inside it! Lots of vinery on the outside to keep them from being able to escape and a watchdog outside the cage just in case they DO escape!!! Great kits!!

My mom loves birds–I’d love to make a birdcage card for her for Mother’s Day!
I love the idea of making a bird cage, but it surely would also have some space for a fairy or two to come and go at will. Afterall, someone would need to keep an eye on the birds.
This is a beautiful set and I can see using it on antique scrap book pages.
The larger cage looks like it would make a beautiful rose covered gazebo with appropriate sized paper gardens and roses, a small table and chairs inside to take in the view. I’d put the smaller birdcage and tiny bird in the lower branches of a tree with outdoor furniture or a retaining wall just low enough to frustrate an adventurous cat.
I love this one and everything that goes with it. Perfect choice for Spring.

We have a Wishing tree at work where I work with children I would make a little birdcages to hang on it

I have been doing a lot of work with winged creatures lately. First it was birds and I’ve now switched to moths and butterflies. The cages would fit in with my themes of freedom vs. Entrapment and sometimes the confusing world in between.
Love the birds and birdcages!!! We enjoy caring for the wild birds at our home and now have chickens – so fun!!!

Love all the colors in the papers that come with these kits. I got really excited about houses in last month’s swap so I will play with some caged images on a house form like Nichola did in her beautiful samples.
