New Tim Holtz Halloween Dies; 2 Mad Scientist Projects

It’s the end of the month, and Design Team Members Rhonda and Katie have two projects for you, and both have created mad scientist labs!
First up is Rhonda with The Mad Laboratory. This month’s Alpha Stamps Cemetery and Add-On Kits are just too fun, especially if you like to create dark art at times like me! My father always asks me how I come up with these things in my head, but I don’t know the answer. It’s like this outpouring of ideas that flows out of my imagination and the pieces just all fall into place. I received a mini brain as a funny gift, and from there it all fell into place. I had the perfect doll, missing the top of her head and the brain fit in perfectly as if it were once a part of her making.”
Oooh, how perfectly crepeldah! The doctor is pining away for his lovely creation complete with her exposed brain and glowing red demon eyes. How very clever, check out the table that Rhonda talks about:
“For the doctor’s table, I used the wood drawer from the collage sheet Secret Spell Book Parts Two along with some matchsticks that I colored using Distress Stain. Very simple to make and some wonderful work space for the laboratory.”
I also like how Rhonda cut one of the Mini Black Wrought Iron Fence to use as a grate over her window (see the photo at right).

Katie’s Dr. Drake’s Lab Oratory is quite the mad scientist paradise with many hidden secrets just waiting to be discovered! Katie used quite a bit from the Magic Potions Kit and an ATC Book Box to create her laboratory.
And if you peer through the top of that fabulous (large) hour glass, you can see the edge of the new Steampunk Doilies.
Katie also used some all-time favorite papers: the Rare Oddities 8×8 Paper Pad and 6×6 Paper Patterns and Solids Pad.

Oh yes, the doilies are amazing. I can see them as part of Valentine’s Day cards all gussied up in pinks and reds with micro beads creating some shimmer. All of the keys would go in Valentine’s Day projects as well.
Now that skull…? Hmm, maybe a pendant or a centerpiece of a tiara. That could be classy.
I love the little guy on top of the chest, stirring up a brew! And Dr. Drake’s cool lab boratory box. Funny how when I see a scene like this I think la-bore-atory, where most of the time it’s laboratory. With all those goodies, I could make a Halloween steampunk box. Love the collage sheets – and the steampunk doilies are so cool!
Love these items they would be used on a project that I am working on right now for Halloween, a 13 day countdown calendar and leftovers would be used for scrapbooking. You always have great finds for my projects that are unusual. Love it.
Its amazing how all these designers come up with such great ideas. I am working on the rare oddities now..making a cabinet and filling it with all the scary things I can find. Great job!!!
Late at night when most are asleep, into my lab (Art Studio) I do creep. A drop of glue, a layer of paint, some apothecary labels are out on the table. I mix, I pour and soon you will see a creepy cabinet will come to be. Halloween night fast approaches.. oh that reminded me to add some roaches. Yes, creepy bugs are all part of the scene, after all it is HALLOWEEN.
What a great collection of goodies for a Halloween project. I’m thinking something of a stooped over “ogreish” witch with keys hanging off her waist would be a start.
I would love to have a mad scientist laboratory and if I win, what a great start I would have .
i am into steampunk haunted house scene what fun that would be! and would make a graveyard scene with broken apothcary in front with ghouls bats etc all those fun things
Ohhhh this is the most super creepy ever…… Right up my alley – I would so put those little skeletons to work in my own creepy laboratory – then interject that beautiful decorated skull , maybe put it under glass, the keys on the ring would be coming attached to one of the little skeleton helpers- and definitely a few unknown body parts made from clay to go into small bottles on the table!!! I can see it all now!
So eerily wonderful.
Well now.. Lucky cats, steampunk doilies?? What on earth could one do to combine the two? Oh yes, I definitely see my mad scientist in his ancient oriental steampunk laboratory. What fun that would be.
I see the keys being used as “wind up” keys that would go on the kitties and the skull would first go on the round emblem then the key would be attached to their backs! They would all be in a laboratory filled with bottles of potions and the miscellaneous body parts, a bloody brain here, a decapitated head there and OH NO! The mad scientist has just arrived with a ….ummmmm. NO! NOT THAT! An entire body to separate into parts and pieces to make his own masterpiece!
Is that a key coming out of her head? Wait, don’t knock over the potion bottles! Gotta go clean up the mess!

Oh fun – I am thinking that the Skeleton Slide Mailer sheet would be perfect to craft up a banner for Halloween.

Old roller skates are easy to find, especially if you are looking for just one – I may even have one in the store room. The roller skate keys inspired me to think about making a Halloween version of the Old Woman in the Shoe, only she will be a witch and her children will be mummies and zombies, popping out all over the shoe!
Love the Mad Scientist lab! How fun would it be to create this! My husband teaches chem labs so this would be perfect!

I am gathering together items for my configuration box that uses Rare Oddities as the base of the project. These items will fit in well with my spell books, magic potions and other oddities in small jars.
Alpha Stamps is the best! I am making a mad scientist vignette for fall and this would be great.
I would make an underground medieval mortuary or catacomb scene complete with little skeleton dudes working here and there, trying to bring the dead back to life.
I love the little keys and the skulls – I would add it to my apothecary!
Secret magic boxes. (Locked, of course.)
Boxes can take many forms. (But I must maintain some of my own secrets.)
-So exciting, I would keep doing my tiny poison box/magic potion cabinet for my fairy garden, there is going to be a cabinet in the corner of the garden…
I’d take some glossy accents and fill a few bottles halfway, then quickly submerge some skull beads, bats and whatever else I could fit in there to serve as my ‘specimen jars’! lock would fit perfectly on the ‘jail cell’ I’m making from an Altoids tin, too. LOVE IT!
I’ve got a Halloween shadow box I’m working on, and these would fit in just perfectly!
I would make,(using this kit and some others) a big shadow-box of a lab!.
and add it to my ” Wall of dark shadows”.

I love the mad laboratory and would use elements of it for my Halloween shadow box.
I have one of Tim’s book configurations-I’d start there. Of course the cover would be Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. On the inside I’d recreate his lab-brain definitely needed. I’d have to get some of those tiny lights to set the mood. Just have to figure out how to make lightning!

I still keep contemplating a traveling medicine show with a gypsy type caravan. It seems the best way to fit that many bottles and goodies in on two sides! I think I have close to 50 bottles collected not to mention all the paper collage ones.
I would make a Mad Scientists apothecary to go with the witches apothecary I just finished.
I plan to make a couple of ornaments for my Halloween tree. These goodies would be perfect for that project — thanks for the chance to win them!
