TWO projects by Nichola Battilana + NEW Tim Holtz Distress Color

Design Team Member Nichola Battilana has two projects for you this week!
First up is the gorgeous Mermaid Shrine using the Curio Cabinet Shrine Kit. Let’s talk about this AMAZING cabinet! It is shipped as a flat kit, and is laser cut from heavy chipboard. Easy to assemble using any type of craft glue (and your choice of paper tape hinges or metal hinges to finish the doors). The finished size is approx 8″ wide x 8-1/2″ tall x 4-1/2″ deep.
As you can see, it is a nice big size to work with — you can take the shelf out as Nichola did and layer up a shrine or diorama inside of it, or leave the shelf in and display trinkets, baubles, or do what I’m going to do with it. Make a little doll house out of it!
Using images from the collage sheets in the Mermaids Kit, Nichola set them against Coral and Seaweed Stem Chipboard.
“My mermaids that I fussy cut from Mermaids #3 Collage Sheet sit upon painted chipboard coral. Staggering the placement of these pieces helps with the depth perception. On the exterior I’ve draped Summer Sea Silk Ribbons as a sort of banner. It helps with the dreamy quality and is a bit like fantasy seaweed. A few stamped Brass Scrolls and Adhesive Pearls finish off the the piece with a bit of treasure trove flair.”

The second one, An Utterly Nonsensical Wishing-Go-Round is simply, not for the faint of glittered-heart but sure to make you smile.
Using the Giant Display Spool ( the center column is 7″ tall!) along with the String Alongs – Moon & Stars and the Chipboard Celestial Shape Set Nichola put together a bit of magic and finished it off with just the right amount of glitter. Which of course in our book at Alpha Stamps is — it’s never enough. Add a little bit more!

I love it all but those Dresden stars are calling to me.
Using the inspiration from song ‘Cat and the fiddle, and a silver spoon, little boy blue and the man in the moon’. I’m thinking of a project with a boxed album. The box having all the elements of the song and the album holding pics of me and Dad.
A smile is on my face. Love everything about it and would love to try my hand at duplicating with a few twists of my own.
That curio cabinet is just screaming to be made into a Day of the Dead shrine. If only I could recreate the color scheme Nicola did. She is an amazing artist and I love seeing all her creations.
I would introduce my cow to the moon along with a few stars and perhaps the cat and the fiddle will be included as well.

The Sun, Moon, & Stars became part of a secret language between me and my two adult daughters when they were very young & chose those symbols to mark their clothing. With this fabulous cache I’d make 3 ACT cards, one for each of us to carry with us wherever life takes us.
I would make a shrine tribute to Van Gogh’ Starry Night!!!!
I love the collage sheets. I would use them in my art journal!

I LOVE the Moons best! But all the other items would reflect beautifully in the glow of the Moon. I would make a few ATC for friends who are having a bit of a rough time at the moment. Nothing is more soothing than bathing in the caress of Moonlight.

This one was made just for me. Of late I am totally into stars-maybe just my age, but the night sky seems to speak to me. Beautiful inspiration and give away-thank you so much for a chance to win this.
Because of where I live, we are nearing 20 hours of sunlight, so stars have not really been visible lately! However, I do get to see them in winter, and love the night sky. Maybe a fairy flying withing a constellation of stars? Got to think about it.
The moons, the moons…
I have a vintage photo of my grandmother, about 5 years old.
It was a studio photo after she survived diptheria, she’s standing next to a giant moon face with her hand on it for support. I would love to make a cabinet out of this!

I love the sun moon and stars perfume and have an empty bottle i would also use in a cabinet type decorated to match with all those over the moon goodies!!!
I love celestial anything. My Great Granddaughters would look perfect sitting on a moon.
I would make an wizard’s theater shrine workshop and the round-about would be the astrology turret of the shrine/workshop. The moons and stars are perfect for something like this.
I would like to make something similar to the Wishing-Go-Round that Nichola did. It’s an awesome idea! My favorite item would probably have to be the I’ve Been Mooned collage sheet. It’s way cool vintage!
Yeah, another great giveaway! I would use the collage sheets and charms to create pages for a little boy mini album, like lullaby pages, etc.

I love the combination of the gol Dresden stars and the brass moons and tiny stars. I would make a glistening garland to hang on other altered art projects.

As for what I’d make… I would make a Once upon time book. I think the “Man in the moon”, stars and clouds are so magical. They would pair beautifully with the nursery rhyme stamps I have from here as well. I’ve been collecting little odds and end’s and these sheets would be perfect for it.:)

I would like to make a diorama and have lil’ pics of all the members in our family watching fireworks and stars in the sky…they would be twinkling and glittered above along with ‘sparks’ of fireworks and stary night and my family …past and present would be on the ground…all together again,having a happy time. 🙂

My late husband used to call me his “golden star” so I couldn’t resist the Dresden stars. Too much fun!
OMG, this is a real tough one to pick cause I love it all!! Ok, one….hmmmmm….one…well, it was tied for first place between the gold dresden stars (they ARE gorgeous!) and the brass star filigree. The filigree won since it can be used in jewelry, mixed media, assemblage. I would have to make a shrine…especially considering my nick!

Oooohhh…love to play with stars….love images of moon-sitters…and my name around the family is “Mermaid”! I’d find a way to combine them all, and am already visioning the beautiful night-sky-blues I will be adding + mica + pearl!
Oh moon and stars and mermaids, too. I would make an under-the-sea lined-with-pearls treasure box for my landlocked granddaughter in TN to hold her ocean treasures from this summer’s visit to Hawaii, home of her birth.
