The Mad Hatter and Lots of Lace

Note: most of the links on this post no longer work, as we moved to a new Web site in 2018. However, you can see the supply lists for both projects on the new site: Marie Antoinette and The Mad Hatter Tea Cup and Fabric & Lace Cuff Bracelet Tutorial.
Before Design Team Coordinator Miz Bella (Kim Ayers) introduces TWO projects by Design Team Member Caroline Ouzts-Hay, let me announce that we are again having TWO Giveaway drawings! More info below.
And I’m continuing the FREE Gift with Order announced on Sunday: Chocolate and Raspberry (in honor of Rhonda Secrist Thomas’ Marie Antoinette Always Loved A Good Party artwork)!
AND… the Collage Sheet Sale and FREE Collage Sheet offer is still going strong! More info about how to get a free collage sheet is below, too.
Mash Up! Marie Antoinette and The Mad Hatter Tea Cup is brought to you by Design Team Member Caroline Ouzts-Hay using the Marie In Wonderland Kit.
Don’t think too hard trying to figure out Caroline’s project by the title of it, or you’ll find your mind might be just as lost in the Valley of the Dolls as mine is! Just sit back and enjoy the fabulousness of Caroline’s latest creation. After throwing around a few different ideas utilizing a tea cup, Caroline decided upon a diorama-type tea cup with the Die-Cut Chipboard Panniers Dress. The dress is covered with an image from the Marie Takes Tea Collage Sheet, adorned with 1mm Micro Beads – Peach Pearl, and 1/8″ Red Satin Ribbon made into tiny bows.
It looks as if the Mad Hatter (from the Mad Hatters Teaparty #2 Collage Sheet) is having trouble deciding which tasty treat to choose from under Miz Marie’s flouncy dress…what IS he doing under her dress? Admiring his festooned table (done with a wee bit of (New and On Sale!) 1/2 Inch Natural Scalloped Cotton Lace)? Only Caroline knows! While we’re all pondering, let’s check out the actual tea cup. The tea cup is covered in paper from the Harmony 6×6 Paper Pad and if you look at the side of the cup, Caroline has embellished it up quite nicely with the (New and On Sale!) Silicone Mold – Architectural Flourishes and cast it with Creative Paperclay. I just love that luscious color palette!
Also interesting to point out is the handle for the tea cup; and I’ll let Caroline tell you about it further:
“I was going to use a really awesome resin casting; but if you take the resin piece out before it is really hard it bends! However when I did that I wasn’t ready to attach it yet and it got too hard by the time that I was. So if you want the ICE Resin handle, then your cup needs to be ready for a handle when you make it. Bend the piece gently and hot glue into place. The hot glue will hold the bend and the resin will harden in that shape.”
There’s a bit more to Caroline’s project but before you head over to her blog to read about it, she stitched together another project for you to look at! Caroline has put together a Fabric & Lace Cuff Bracelet Tutorial that looks fast and easy to put together. Using a heavy base fabric and layering strips of 1 Inch Natural Cotton Lace, 5/8 inch White Zig-Zag Cotton Lace (both of those laces are New and On Sale!, and there’s a Cotton Lace Sampler Set so you can try out all 3 of the new cotton laces), Tulle Netting – 6 Inch Wide – Light Pink, and a few other items. Oooh here’s an idea! If you wanted your cotton lace to be a different color, you could always use the Distress Stains OR the Alcohol Inks to dye them with. At least that’s what I’d do, and have a great time making a big fat mess that I’d blame on my kids when Slim Daddy came home and saw color everywhere. (And/or check out Jeanne’s Tinting Lace Tutorial.)
Of course, you know here at Alpha Stamps, if we’re not sure if something is finished then we just add a little bit more! If you’re going to wear something on your wrist then there has to be something shiny or sparkly as well. There just has to be, it’s a rule! Caroline uses Pearl Rosary Chain and also walks you through how to make your own charms and cuff closure. These cuffs are so easy you’ll be wanting to make one for everyone.
There are two supply lists for you to peruse and two separate blog posts for you to visit. Mash Up! Marie Antoinette and The Mad Hatter Tea Cup supply list and blog post, Fabric & Lace Cuff Bracelet Tutorial supply list and blog post.
