Time for a Safari, New Travel Theme SALE & FREE Gift!
Filed under Art Projects, Collage Sheets, Featured Artwork, Giveaways, Newsletters, Rhonda Secrist Thomas, Sale
Note: most of the links on this post no longer work, as we moved to a new Web site in 2018. However, you can see the supply list items from Rhonda’s project that are still available on the new site.
Before I dive into the fun, a quick note. Remember our dear Guest Designer (and long-time customer) Marilyn Hughes? She has been hit by the severe flooding in Louisiana and can use your help. “My studio where I did all my creative Mixed Media work is completed flooded. Our house was insured, but not the contents or my studio.” Click here to learn more and help fund her rebuilding. Plus, I’m going to set aside 10% from the cost of all purchases placed today for a future shopping spree once Marilyn has a studio to put new supplies in. Thanks.
In honor of today’s artwork by Design Team Member Rhonda Secrist Thomas, there’s a NEW Travel Theme Section! Tons of things in there (over 60 items!)… from fantasy Jules Verne time travel to vintage postage (including quite a few Tim Holtz items) to Africa to Art Deco voyages… and it includes all kinds of items, from charms and papers to digital image sets. Plus that new section is on sale TODAY AND TOMORROW ONLY for 40% off! (the sale ends Friday night, August 19th)! Go check it out now!
PLUS: ALL Animal Charms have just been put on SALE at 50% OFF! That includes cats, bats, rabbits, elephants (including that sweet little one in the FREE Gift — see next paragraph)! NOW through Monday night, August 22nd!
NEW Travel Charms FREE Gift Kit! These kits are FREE for ALL orders, now through SATURDAY NIGHT, August 20, 2016 (or until the kits are gone)! That includes three of the bronze charms used by Rhonda in her Time for a Safari artwork, plus a little bronze elephant. And since all of those are either in the Travel Theme Section or Animal Charms, all of them are on sale, too!
Rhonda has created Time for a Safari from the new Memory Tray Shadowbox (and her blog is filled with tons of step-by-step photos so you can see how easily that shadowbox goes together)!
That assembled shadowbox is approx. 8″ tall by 10-1/2″ wide by 1″ deep (which is a good “mama bear” size in my book: not as large as a shadowbox for full-size scrapbook paper, and not too small to get your hands in there while decorating.
Rhonda also used the colorful new Safari Adventure Paper Pads (in all 3 sizes) AND a new set of Safari Chipboard Silhouettes! And see below for photos and some text from Rhonda’s blog about those chipboard animals.
Aside: Design Team Member Betsy Skagen has also created with some wild animals: THREE new A Trip to the Zoo Collage Sheets! These are so sweet! I love the nostalgic Victorian illustrations from these images of children’s books. As all 3 are in the Travel Theme Section, they’re on 40% off sale, too (today and tomorrow only)! And check the Giveaway as I’m including all 3!
Now back to Rhonda’s post:
I started by placing different elements into place, deciding exactly where I wanted my placement which then led to me knowing which side of my chipboard animals to paint.
Good ole Distress Paints for the main color of each animal made it a quick and non messy project. Love these little dabbers so much!
Then I used markers to “paint” on the details. This beautiful page from G45 Safari Adventure was great for inspiration and guidance. What do you think?
I think that giraffe looks great, Rhonda!
See everything Rhonda used to create her Time for a Safari in her Supply List. And visit Rhonda’s blog for lots more tips, photos, and a step-by-step tutorial! (Don’t forget to come back and enter today’s Giveaway).

Hi. I have a good friend who just had knee replacement surgery. She is a docent at the Los Angeles Zoo and as a retired from educator spends many hours teaching and conducting research on the animals. She is a true gem when it comes to conservation!
