Get ready for another extraordinary, steam-fueled adventure with Design Team Member Laura Carson and her Voyages Extraordinaires Steampunk Shadowbox & Diorama!
Of course since it is a Laura Carson creation, there is a myriad of eye candy to boggle the brain. There is no possible way to cover it all in one little blog post so I’ll just be touching on a few highlights and on some of the new items that she used.
Using a simple 8×10 Shadowbox as the base for the Skyport (my favorite part!) Laura also created FIVE new collage sheets and and THREE new digital download sets for the project. The Skyport uses images from the:
– Voyages Extraordinaire #1 Collage Sheet
– Voyage Extraordinaire #2 Collage Sheet
– Steampunk Elements Collage Sheet
– Up, Up and Away Collage Sheet
And/Or
– Voyage Extraordinaire Digital Image Set
– Steampunk Elements Digital Image Set
– Up, Up & Away Digital Image Set
For many of the components of the Skyport and the Train Station Laura used elements from the Steampunk Hot Air Balloon and the Hats Chipboard Shapes Sets. The Voyages Extraordinaires #3 Collage Sheet is also used in The Train Station. (See the separate photo of the Train Stain below… Isn’t that owl taxi too cute? See lower left close-up.)
It looks like the Evening Lamp Post that Laura festooned is pretty amazing (shown in all its glory in the lower half of the photo at right). Once Laura decorated the base and then layered her elements on it, it ended up dripping with all sorts of steampunk goodness. (And that 30mm Round Glass Cabochon over the globe image from her Voyages Extraordinaires #1 Collage Sheet looks great.)
“I painted some areas of the lamp post gold and added Gold Harlequin Diamond Tape, Brass Flourishes, Round Box Feet (to the top of the lanterns), Fleur Connectors and rondelles.”
Check out the two supply lists for Laura’s Voyages Extraordinaires Steampunk Shadowbox & Diorama, The Train Station and the Skyport. For detailed information on how Laura created her gorgeous project, visit Artfully Musing.

Hooray for the Voyages Extraordinaires Giveaway! Wow… Look at all those goodies. Kinda demanded a wider photo.
I started with the FIVE NEW Collage Sheets (and remember: all the collage sheet are on sale, too):
– Voyages Extraordinaires #1 Collage Sheet
– Voyages Extraordinaires #2 Collage Sheet
– Voyages Extraordinaires #3 Collage Sheet
– Steampunk Elements Collage Sheet
– Up, Up and Away Collage Sheet
Then more NEW items (also in Laura’s artwork):
– 30mm Round Glass Cabochon (happy accident that it landed on that hot air balloon from the Up, Up and Away Collage Sheet in my photo — and note the close-up in the lower right of that photo)
– 8×10 Shadowbox
– Steampunk Shapes Set – Hats
– Chipboard Layered Iron Bridge
– Mixed Sets of Bronze Gears
– Black & White Checkerboard Scrapbook Paper
And finally, a few more items from Laura’s artwork:

– Raw Brass Box Feet – Rounded
– 3D Bronze Pointing Hand
– Brass Propeller

Hey, who won the Circus Folio Giveaway? That would be Lorna E! (And she commented: “My favourite page is the one with the horses on it. I love the layering in it and how the horse in the image with the rider is echoed by the horse running on the page. I like the quote on that page as well.“) Please check your email for my message about getting your mailing address.
I would probably attempt to make a 3D mobile with these amazing goodies! I love Hot Air Balloons and who doesn’t love a mobile? So fun to think of where I would float away to in a hot air balloon! Thanks for the chance to win these goodies!

Love, love, love, Laura’s Voyage Extraordinaires project! I can imagine making an Alice in Wonderland travels down the rabbit hole, using the same items.
Great giveaway!
Ooh, I like this style! I enjoy doing shadow boxes, so something along that line would be my first project!
Laura is so amazing I LOVE all her fantastic projects-who could ever be as awesome as her. I would love to make something steampunk-maybe a shadow box or a mini album. >^..^<
Oh my goodness! How cool! Absolutely love those pointing hands!!
I’ve been plotting to make some extravagant little hats and fascinators, and these pieces would be perfect complents for them!
Oh my these are really Steamy!!!I would love to make an album called up up and away!!!!
I am envisioning a chunky page book. Would love to win this. Thank you for the opportunity
I would try to make a simpler version of the Skyport, with some tethered and some airborne balloons. I have read many steampunk novels with sky-ports or sky-docks in them, which will give me some ideas. I might save the Evening Lamp Post and raven for a spooky Halloween scene.
I just love Laura’s steampunk vignette! I’d like to make an abbreviated version in a gallery wrapped canvas. I’d be using the interior so I could create lots of dimension!
I’d try to make Laura’s shadowboxes, both are so cool!
Steampunk all the ways.
These are so cool. I would make a collage!
Up,up and away! A journey toward flights of fancy. Steampunk at it’s best
I am in a 4 x 4 group and our theme for July is Steampunk/Vintage. So many wonderful things here it will be hard to choose what to do. I have to make 10 pages and getting some steampunk items would give me a place to start. Thanks for the opportunity to enter.
Oh My! What a wonderful collection of goodies. Where to start would be difficult, but the one small item I would definitely incorporate into a project would be the raven shape. I love ravens! But to have all this in my possession would be wonderful (to say the least!).
Wow! This is amazing! How much fun is this! Not sure what to make, but sure I could come up with something.
When I look at this, I see a steampunk street scene from old London. Just a couple of brave ladies taking an evening stroll.
All the glorious ideas!
I love the steampunk theme and would imagine creating a theater with the. Images and the various chipboard supplies. Love your store.
Love this! It would be great in a shadowbox, with interactive parts for gears.
What a beautiful Diorama, and the street scene is perfect.
Wow, this is one of my favorite giveaways!!! Reminds me of olde time Paris!!! I think I would do a homage diorama/collage or shadowbox. LOVE it!!! Would be amazing to win 🙂
I love the balloons and steampunkery. I would make a scroll village with the balloons and ladies.
Wow! Laura is one talented lady .
This giveaway has so many possibilities to create all kinds of things.
I would try to make my first Steampunk shadowbox.
Steam punk, travel. How can it get any better.
I would add these items to the steampunk canvas my husband requested.
Just love steampunk!! I’d try to create an airship cockpit using the dials on the collage sheet – amongst many other things running through my head now 🙂
Wow,wow, wow! Steampunk heaven!! You are correct,I am not brave enough to recreate this. Its amazing!! Not sure what I would make with this.Probably use bits and piece here and there. In my opinion, you can never have to many gears or to much steampunk in your stash.
Steam Punk is my middle name. Love this giveaway.
WOW, another masterpiece from Laura.
My favorite theme is Steampunk so I really hope to win this fabulous prize.
Thanks for the chance to win!
This is so VERY steampunk! I love it all! Propellers and airships! Clocks and dials! Too much fun!!!
I would definitely try to make the train station!
The collage sheets are wonderful I would use them to finish a Steampunk book that I started. Then I would go for something 3D with Laura’s inspiration and the elements from this Package.
Great giveaway as usual. I would make ornaments out of everything for a Victorian Steampunk Christmas Tree! Thank you for the opportunity to win!
This is a super fantastic collection!! Would love to replicate it as best as possible!!
I think I would make a steampunk circuis with those items.
I think I saw a raven in the giveaway, which, along with street lamps, that are very old-school Baltimore, where I live. I think Poe would appreciate a steampunk circuis. (Or haunted house/haunted mansion/ghost town.) There are gears too, reminiscent of our roots as an industrial port/city.
(I’m in love with my city… So many people cannot see the beauty, only crime statistics. I have a different view. The items in the giveaway are lovely too.)
Fabulous! Love all the originality,so clever,so much to take in!
This has so many possibilities! I would create something to hang on the living room wall.
Up, up and away to more cards!
Congratulations, Lorna E! Laura Carson’s projects are always awesome! This one is no exception 🙂
The giveaways just keep getting better! I’d like to try to replicate some of Laura’s project. I’d most likely do a simpler steampunk shadowbox.
Laura you have outdone yourself!!! Love the hot air balloons and all the little metal pieces.
Its beautiful.
I would definitely try to replicate Laura’s project. Her work is amazing eye candy and I would love to have one to enjoy day after day.
I just love what Laura did with this. Id be up to making one like it. I am a huge fan of steampunk and collect anything I can get my hands on with vintage balloons. They are my favorite part. Love the people too! I really need to win this. Ive been in a creative drought for months!!
Oh My! These are beautiful new sheets…on my wish list for sure! I keep a file folders of all the ones I’m wishing for! So, while drooling I will tell you I would make a Balloon festival! Like the one in Glens Falls, NY. Each year there’s a huge balloon festival and theres vendors and people all over the hillsides watching the beautiful colored displays of ooodles of hot air balloons. Its quite a site let me tell you. So, now I live in Florida…but in my mind, I can still picture those days on those hills with all those balloons. That’s the scene I’d make. Thank you for the chance…sure wish I’d win.
I think I would do a travel book or folio with them…. Love the steampunk goodness!
Wow! Beautiful work Laura! I would like to make an awesome, vintage travel journal (I’m crazy about journals) and this collection is perfect for that. I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
Wow! Wow! This collection is amazing, so much to look at and there is so much to make. Where do I start? First I have to win it!
Some type of large steampunk steamer trunk!
I would not attempt to copy…..but I do love the sky port….and would love to have one……like paper dolls, doll houses….and the romance of the era….all in one!
I honestly have no idea what I would try to make. Maybe a couple of Steampunk tag with some ATCs thrown in or use a canvas back to create a small, shallow scene. Laura did such an awesome job!
So cool!I’d love to win this!
I absolutely love this theme.. I would make a version of Laura’s sky port . I just love it. What an amazing imagination.
I love all the Steampunk fun; I would probably make a steampunk printers tray, or at least have fun trying.
I’d start with that raven and go from there, probably with the gears and clocks. I’m enchanted by those elements. So much to do with so many travel themed items.
I love this collection – maybe a steam punk trunk. I love trunks!
I would do a mobile with the ballons and the circles — or maybe a shadow box focused on that. You are right – the is a lot in her project but that is just more inspiration. I also like the glasses – id do something with those!
Oh my goodness! What a wonderful piece! And I particularly love the vintage look. I could make a really interesting box for storing crafts with these parts.
I would love to alter a large desk clock with all of the steampunk elements, which are FABULOUS! I’d need an Engineering Degree to re-create Laura’s amazing project. but I’d certainly go crazy making steampunk mixed media projects with all of the wonderful items offered in your giveaway:)
I love Laura’s art and would try and replicate the whole piece!! 🙂
I love the gears and hot air balloons! Don’t know how I could work those together, but I’d love to try.
Steampunk forever! Thank you for another opportunity!
I would make a Victorian magical store.
Since I adore Steampunk, and just made a Steampunk mermaid doll, I would LOVE this giveaway. I’m almost imagining a clock factory, with all kinds of gears and clocks, and perhaps a glimpse through the window of a balloon floating off in the distance…….
Cool stuff!
I am making a shadow box to honor my Great Grandparents who went to the Worlds Fair in Chicago, 1893. This would be perfect for them, they could have done Steampunk with their likes and interests. So Cool!!
Steampunk mobile
I would love to make a diorama.
I love the lamp post with all the clock gears. I would try to make something like that with some of the balloons as well.
how ’bout a steampunk, brothel/ red-light district scene. That sounds like fun to me!
An altered book, a diorama, a multilayered collage with parts that moved.
I love anything steampunk! there is so much I could do with the kit.
This is one I want to win!
Crazy over steampunk! Laura has such a creative imagination. It sure would be fun to make something similar but maybe just a bit smaller in size. Love all the air balloons!
Wow! This is very ambitious and impressive!
I would love to win it and try to duplicate the gorgeous project!
I absolutely love steampunk!! I would definitely try to reproduce Laurs’s design, it’s awesome………..
OMG! Im in love with this wicked steampu k set
This is packed full of incredibly yummy visual candy. The best that I could ever wish is to decorate my plain looking desk accessories with mini versions of a similar vignette so as to keep me entertained during conference calls.
Laura’s creation is amazing, as always!! Great giveaway goodies, I’m seeing a steampunk hot air balloon regatta floating about my studio!
I can’t believe my good luck with the timing of this fabulous give away. We are building a small room around our hot tub. Steampunk is my favorite way to decorate now. Just steampunked bird houses for outside the spa room and want to decorate the room with steampunk hot air balloons and gears and all the fun things I can dream up. This kit and Laura’s ideas would be great!!!
I love steampunk! I would use this collection to make a sort of story book-ish, tag book with altered elements. I have hundreds of quotations and use them to make the altered tag books personalized for each person
I love all of this. I would love to try to make a steampunk shadow box. It would be the very first one that I make. Wish me luck ladies! Of course, kudos to you Laura for making awesome art! Thanks for having this giveaway Leslie!
Lisa
Oh my goodness how does she do it?! I am agog at the intricacy and beauty of Laura’s creation. I adore Steampunk; it always makes my imagination do a happy dance! And pointing left hands are just the thing, aren’t they?! I think I’d be going for a Steampunk fashion show, with all the lovely models in this set. Thanks for the chance to win!
Loving the vintage Steampunk look. I’m seeing father’s day cards in the making
This Steampunk set is soooo cool!
I need ephemera, etc. for these Tim Holtz Steampunk burlap panels that I’ve been holding onto…waiting for just the right stuff to put on all 4 of them.
Love the steampunk papers – I would definitely make a travel journal!
I would make a steampunk themed shadow box. Great giveaway.
Holy Moly!! Definitely not brave enough to make Laura’s entire project, but certainly would make a steampunk shrine!!
Laura rocked this out of the park!! Brilliant!!
I love all the steampunk goodies. I’d do a box.
I would make a picture album for my Father in law he is 86 years young and took his first ride in a hot air balloon
Oh a lovely travel composite – I like the folding folder from Tim Holtz from the last giveaway.
OH! The hot air balloon needs to be the focal point! Love this giveaway!
I just love the Steampunk theme and all the detail. Another great project!
I’d do a steampunk’d up version of the story of Nellie Bly, the newspaper woman who tried to go around the world in 80 days.
It doesn’t get any better than steampunk. It’s my favorite. With this collection an altered book is in order. Layer upon layer!
I would like to make a 3D-steampunk balloon using the image collections. This is a great steampunk collection.
I LOVE the Skyport. The challenge I will give myself is to create fully a 3D version of Laura’s stunning and imaginative creation, adding depth so part of the scene extends out beyond the shadow box (yet extending the floor) and making the images become proportionately 3-dimensional. I would use of polymer clay to bring objects to life, as well as tissue pads for the balloons for a round, curved effect. What an amazing learning experience it would be!
I think I’d make a shadowbox steampunk variation on Mr. Toad’s wild ride! I’d bring in his friends, too, how fun! 🙂
Laura never ceases to amaze me! I would try to replicate her idea, but I know mine would not turn out half as cool.
Love to win , So cute!!
