Design Team Showcase: Teri Calia
Filed under Bella's Corner, Design Team
Teri Calia has been more than just an Alpha Stamps Design Team Member. She is also the long-reigning ‘Customer Service Goddess’ for Alpha Stamps! In addition, Teri is the official ‘Squeal-O-Meter’ for new products that come into the warehouse. Be very careful if you’re within hearing distance when new products come in because the more Teri loves something the higher and more shrill the squeal!
Most endearing to me (but not shocking to you) is Teri’s delightfully demented sense of humor which can also show up in her artwork. Well. That and she is willing to babysit my 3 kids!
“Many of you know me as the reigning ‘Customer Service Goddess’ of Alpha Stamps, but in real life I am a freelance illustrator. I specialize in drawing animals and I am especially fond of cats. For fun and as a great stress reliever, I create art every chance I get!
I love mixed media and collage, acrylic paint, drawing, Photoshop, hoarding art supplies and ephemera. My latest obsession is making jewelry. I have a BA in Fine Art and I’ve been creating art for as long as I remember. One of my biggest influences is my seamstress Mother who always says “there’s no such thing as can’t!”
I really enjoy working with darker themes such as death, horror, disease, tragedy, etc. I especially enjoy making canvases or shrines about real life tragedy as a way to deal with it. I am always up for challenging my creativity so I love taking classes and learning new techniques. I like to try everything I can!
I am a legendary hoarder. Vintage doll parts, animal skeletons (whole or in pieces), vintage labels, paper flowers (like the ones from Prima), tiny vintage metal tins, vintage plastic saint statues, buttons, shiny objects….there’s more. Always more for me to want to hoard!
My biggest surprise is always when someone wants to buy something I’ve done, I never think the things I do are worth anything.”
Bella’s Note: Teri is crazy! She makes amazing art so she shouldn’t be surprised when someone wants to buys her works.)
