Michele Witchell has created some beautiful things with the Brothers’ Grimm Fairy Tale collage sheets! There’s a lovely double-sided Pendant Necklace, a set of Decorated Bath Soaps and Candle, a Photo Frame and a multi-part hanging Garland.
Here are Michele’s directions for making these lovely works!
1. Beauty Necklace
Image from “Spinning Wheel” collage sheet…I used a found piece of laminate to make this necklace. Glue and embellish collage image on front and back.
With copper tape, I soldered around the rectangle so I could add a jump ring.
Then, using found jewelry pieces, attach to jump rings.
I used Alpha Stamps silk ribbon to tie small pieces to the necklace.
Lastly I “antiqued the piece by using Ranger Inkssentials Crackle accents with a bit of vintage brown ink rubbed into the cracks.
2. Picardy Rose Candle
A quick and easy gift…
I found a glass at the local thrift store the perfect size for the “Roses #1 and Roses #2” clear stickers. Wipe the glass with rubbing alcohol or vinegar
to get rid of any trace of oil/dirt. Cut the clear stickers using a small paper cutter…that way they will come together at the seams almost perfectly.
Adhere to glass. I happened to find a cover that I ended up using. But first I glued paper to the top of the lid and used another sticker from the Roses sheet.
When I used that sticker I cut it close to the flower so that I wouldn’t have a lot of excess “sticker” clouding up the paper. Antique paper with some brown
ink to resemble the tone of the stickers.
Again, I used copper tape around the lid and around the bottom of the glass, soldered, and then for a vintage rusted look I used a copper blackening agent.
The fun part of this candle is that instead of a real candle burning, I found a little flickering light at the dollar store…it was made just for this purpose, so that you can enjoy candlelight without lighting a real candle!!! And, you don’t have to worry about the stickers burning or coming undone because of the heat.
3. Happy Frame
A purchased wooden frame repurposed…lots of paper decoupaged to the frame….dried flowers decoupaged on top….using brown ink, I slightly “aged” the
frame with a little stipple brush. Embellish as you like. I used an image from “Spinning Wheel” collage sheet and adhered to the bottom right hand corner.
4. Story Soaps
Another quick and easy project…and lots of fun!!!!
First, I wrapped a fresh bar of soap with some french paper…folded and taped the ends like a Christmas present. For all the soaps, I used the new “Vine Border”
rubber stamp to stamp the sides and front. On top of that I found some cute collage images from “Grimm Covers #1“. Glue to paper and embellish.
5. Fairytale Garland
Found a great sequined studded “belt” at a rummage sale to use for the base of the garland. I made several “tags” from chipboard covered with patterned paper.
The “Vine Border” rubber stamp was used for background images. A little bit of doodling with charcoal pencil, white pen and gel pens. The images from the
Grimm Covers #1, #2 and #3 all were used for the tags. Sometimes I cut out just a little part of the collage image and combined that piece with others. Then embellish! Find lots of different objects that can be used to add to the garland. I used chandelier crystals, skeleton keys, fabric flower, vintage Christmas ornament and a tin moon.
Vintage seam binding was used to tie the tags to the garland. I used a little bit of pink wire to attach the other elements.
